Other than knowing that MotoGP dropped to 800cc's this year and that Supersport is a 600cc class, I know absolutedly nothing about each class. AMA classes also. Where is this info?

MotoGP: 800cc limit, there is also a minimum weight limit. Other than that pretty much anything goes. It is the cutting edge of the sport with pure prototype developement which brigs all your high tech stuff to your road bike, just as F1 does for the cars. Switched to four stroke 1000cc four strokes 4(?) years ago from 500cc 2 strokes

GP class 250 & 125: Same as above but with the obvious cc restrictions.

Superbike (AMA British Superbike & World Superbike and all other national championships): Road machines 1000cc maximum (at the moment, Ducati are currently lobying for v-twins to be allowed upto 1200cc....even though they win nearly everything as it is!).

They can upgrade suspension, engine mapping and do minor tuning. The bikes have to be ''homologated'', that is to say there have got to be 300 road legal versions sold before they are eligble. They have to use road tyres.......EDIT They use slicks on superbikes and supersport.

Supersport: As superbike but 600cc.

Superbike:

Thanks for the info guys.

What is the difference between World Superbike and World Superstock? I see at Silverstone the superbikes are about 5 sec faster. I also noticed that on the silverstone race there was around a 14sec difference in lap times between qualifying and fastest lap times. What's up with that? I figured it must have rained the whole race or they ran a slightly different course.

Silverstone Lap times

For AMA. What is the difference between Superbike, Superstock and Formula Extreme?

Lemme see if I can add some info for some of the classes....

AMA

Superbike - 1000cc - many modifications including some motor work, suspension replacement components, many bolt-on replacement components (i.e. exhaust, radiator, wheels, brake components)

Superstock - 1000cc - limited modifications to motor, replacement shock permitted, forks can only replace internals, limited bolt on replacement components (exhaust, brake lines)

Supersport - 600cc - same as superstock

Formula Extreme - 600cc - same as superbike (a few other bikes permitted in this class - Duc 749, Buell XB-RR)

World Superbike - 1000cc - many modifications - very similar to AMA Superbike

World Supersport - 600cc - same as World Superbike (not 100% certain - keep me honest if anyone knows otherwise)

The only one I don't know is formula extreme. I am in the UK and it's an American series that we don't run.

The Superstocks are the same as superbikes but they are 'stock' very little can be done to change them.
