But on the original topic: I've used knives, but that can be risky to fingers. Regular scissor work, but you can't beat those heavy duty kitchen type scissors. And back off topic: those heavy duty scissors also work great for clipping wings off quail or chukar when performing cleaning duties at the end of a day in the field with the dog.
