Like I have posted before been off bikes for 30 years...whats the best stuff to use on the windsheld...clean and protect.

Thanks, cary

Where can ya get it...auto parts store. I found it on the web.

Thanks

Plexus seems to be the favorite. I like it. I also like Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Clear Plastic Detailer a lot.

And if you have some fine scratches showing up, use Meguiar's Mirror Glaze Cear Plastic Cleaner followed by Mequiar's (etc) Clear Plastic Polish. Easy to use and works amazingly well.

On the road, I carry Lemon Pledge wipes and a terry towel.

And I was told recently that a lot of Euros just carry a small squirt bottle filled with hydrogen peroxide. The drug stuff is diluted enough that it doesn't hurt the finish and melts bugs better than anything commercial cleaner.

I guess the bottom line is that it all works.

I'm coming to believe that plain old soap and water with a microfiber cloth is best. Also, even with the microfiber you can get swirls in the plastic. So, I've adopted a wipe up and down only policy. No swirling, no side to side. This way, if scratches do occur, they are only vertical and when oncoming lights or setting suns blast through the shield, glare will be minimized. If I do get scratches, I use an isinglass scratch remover/restorer. Best I've found. Oh, and soak those bugs a bit before wiping. Those dry carcases can do a whack of damage in a hurry.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it. ;)

Just about any automotive polish will clean and clarify a plastic windscreen.

Meguiars Cleaner Wax works great and only costs ~4.99 at most discount stores.

I've always just soaked the grime and bugs with Windex and wiped with a soft rag. Armor All is the other quick and easy way to hide small scratches and make bugs stick less. Just a quick wipe with an ArmorAll wipe helps the next cleanup immensely.

For the rest of the plastic body work I have often used Pam cooking spray in bug season. You would be amazed at how easy bugs and stuff clean off after riding if you gave the plastic a quick spray of Pam along the leading edges.

Plexus is worth it's weight in gold IMO. On my recent cross country adventure on my Bandit (wish I had the FJR then), I carried it in my tank bag and sprayed it on and quickly, effortlessly, and efficiently cleaned my visor in seconds.

As posted elsewhere, Son of a Gun. Spray it on, let it sit a couple of minutes to soften the bugs and road-gunk, gently wipe it off, buff lightly with a clean microfiber cloth (light blue detailing cloths from evil Wally World). The only downside is that it (and similar products) washes off in the rain, sometimes clouding the shield for a few minutes in the process. Just close your eyes.

Oh, and as twowheel suggested, go up and downy, not round and roundy!

If you want your sheilds (face and wind) to last a long time, then treat it gently. Cleaning can be done with minimal fuss and expense as detailed here:

https://www.tulsaenterprises.com/hints.html

Instead of their recommendation for cleaning chemicals, I've found that either the 2 step cleaner/polish from Meguiars (#17 clear plastic cleaner and #10 clear plastic polish) or the 1 step detailer (#18 clear plastic detailer) are the best things I've ever found (doesn't leave a film like Plexus and doesn't attack any coatings on the plastic like Pledge furniture polish can).

Over the years, I've pretty much settled on the #18 Detailer after cleaning with warm water and soft towels like Tulsa recommends.

I use Plexus on the windscreen but found that plain old thinned out windex does a better job on my faceshields. The Plexus , I find, leaves a film on the faceshields that is annoying to me.

Try the V sponge from Bike Johnny. You'll be shocked. ;)
It's actually called the V2 sponge.

Amazing on bugs, and u can take out a city block with 1 too!

Boy, that sure looks like that new cleaning sponge from Mr Clean. The one that says you can clean painted walls with no damage? Sure sounds like the same thing from Bikejohnny's description.

I'd love to see if both are actually the same.
