I've noticed that when I slow down quickly, I get a click from the triple tree/head bearing area. Almost like something is shifting forward like 1/16".

Could this be the notorious loose steering head bearing that I've been reading about?

Depends if you've retorqued your head bearings or not. If you've got a new one you've never had toruqed...it's probably a loose bearing. If you do torque and have some miles it could be a grooved race and need to replace bearings.

Mine grooved around 75K and as I stabbed the breaks I could feel a "Pungggg" in the handlebars. Replacing this winter with tapered bearings.

Hey Iggie, any chance of a picture of the grooving?

What they said. Mine was loose from the dealer so I tightened when I got into work the next day since I didn't have a 36mm socket. When I told the dealer, he said it's supposed to be properly torqued from the factory. Of course, I think the dealer should be checking everything over before delivery.

I just got it, its an 06 with just over 8k miles on it now. So I've never retorqued them, and I don't know if the PO did either.
