72 mph.

Prius 'parked' on road edge, left wheels still on pavement, rights on the dirt shoulder.

Two women. Passenger pointing her finger my way.

Cover the brakes.

Yep, there she goes, U turn right in front of me.

Too little distance as the left rear quarter panel appears...

ABS, front and rear.

Thump, Thump, Thump.

Countersteer a hard right, ABS still Thumping.

Miss car, off brakes, ride the dirt shoulder back to pavement.

I'm really really REALLY glad I took the time to learn how to steer with ABS engaged.

It's not natural to me, so I spent, literally, hours practicing on the dirt road to my house.

Even set up cones.

Moral of story?

Ride modern bikes that have ABS. Practice. Make muscle memory. Learn new skills.

Someday it just might save your butt.

Check your spelling. The vehicle is a Pius; named after the character of many (not all) who drive them.

Good save.

Glad you dodged the bullet - or Prius. Thanks for the tip, if I'm ever out your way, I'll be sure to use your road for braking practice...

Good work on the save! Glad you're here to complain about the Prius. Song dedicated to the old lady driving something silver in my lane. Wish I had your skills brother.

Nice job of avoiding and anticipating DC!

Ride safe out there...gotta be ready for anything.

Glad it was nothing more than two women giving you a thrill. Hope your pulse rate is back to normal.

A riding mentor of mine told me to ride like there was a truck across both lanes in the middle of a corner and ask myself if would I be able to stop in time... several years later, lo and behold, I'd come around a corner on Bear Creek Rd to find a pickup truck across both lanes on a 2-lane road trying to make a 43-point u-turn where they never should have even tried it... and Prius drivers... just... UGH!

OK OK.....all three of these stories are gonna make me hit the parking lot real soon!!!! Glad you to are ok!!!
Me too.
THAT was the true purpose of posting this encounter. Without having spent the time, I would have paid the dime. The quest to learn and hone new safety skills should be priority 1 for all of us. In this case, it was a calm experience. Look, she's pulling out. ThumpThump turn, clear, off brakes, get straight, continue on. Yawn.
