Folks,
As I stated in the earlier message, I was going to do the BARBARIAN mode and play with it.

The mod was very easily done and I increased the CO setting in cylinders 1 and 2.

Since then, I have cold started the engine 3 times and the misfire has not reoccurred. :D

You never said how much you increased the CO settings in the 1 and 2 cylinders.

Inquiring minds want to know.

GPRIDER, I increased the CO setting on cylinders 1 & 2 by only 2 increments. BUT, my dealer worked with me when the bike was new as it just did not run correctly. By correctly, I mean just like my 2004. It was just running too lean. They used a CO probe and ran the CO up to the limits, I think it was 4ppm or .4ppm, something with a 4 in it. This helped a lot, but I still had the banging from the left side of the engine during cold startup.

After I increased the CO by 2 in cylinders 1&2, the banging stopped completely. My CO numbers are as followes from 1 to 4: 22/32/32/38.

These numbers are higher than I remember being quoted by others on this forum, but remember, my dealer was into the system with an exhaust probe to enriced the mixture so that bike pulled a low RPM and did not buck off-throttle. The dealer solved both of these problem and just a touch more CO for 1 & 2 cured the banging due to misfire at cold startup.

I'd been meaning to check the forums here for an answer, and I'm quite relieved that the thunking/clunking noise on startup isn't serious. My 2008 started doing the same noise at about the same time ethanol was introduced to the gas pumps. Just as everyone has described here, the noise is random (mine does it maybe two or three time within the first 30 seconds) and then it's gone until the next cold start. So, thanks for the info above. I can breathe easy now.
