I flushed & bled the clutch as I have numerous times in the past.

This time, when I applied pressure to the lever for the first bleed, the lever had some resistance then I

heard/felt a little crack then it move as per the norm. I'm pretty sure it came from the master cylinder

and not the actual clutch housing bit not completely sure.

Any suggestions on what might have happened?

Did it go away or is it still making a noise?

Any chance that the brass bushing in the lever is gummed up and got stuck? Might not hurt to pop it out and give it a clean/lube. Other than that, I don't have a suggestion. If it doesn't happen again and you have normal clutch operation, I would (try to) forget about it.

Just on the initial pull after the first crack of the bleeder screw, then back to normal.

Brass bushing is lubed and in good shape.

Almost seemed like the pushrod in the MC hung up.

Helpful...

Personally I'd probably want to strip down the MC and inspect it. I see you're on a 2003, has the MC ever been serviced? It's meant to be done fairly regularly - although I don't think anyone believes as regularly as Yamaha suggests. Any question on the brakes, I would simply drop in a new MC service kit, but on the clutch I wouldn't be quite as concerned.

• Replace the oil seals on the inner parts of the brake or clutch master cylinders, caliper cylinders and clutch release cylinder every two years.

• Replace the brake and clutch hoses every four years or if cracked or damaged.

Something like this has always happened on mine (2009) after the bike hasn't been used for a coupe of days.

It isn't so much an audible crack, more like a feeling that something stuck briefly and then let go.

I have always put it down to the O ring in the slave cylinder sticking briefly, then getting lubed with hydraulic fluid, then no further drama.......

Been like that for 92,000 miles and everything still working normally.

I had sum cheap, Chinese levers that did this, 'n I couldn't get a proper bleed. Got rid of 'em, 'n went back to well lubricated stock levers.
