No dragging or slipping of the clutch, just generally crappy shifts (random grinding, clashing. thunking, and sometimes even down right smooth). And yes, I watch my technique... I know the FJR will never shift "like butter", but just trying to improve the shift quality by whatever amount I could find. But most of those plates were dry. no oil on them at all.
My old VStrom 650 shifted pretty well. My old Moto Guzzi shifted like a 1950s Mack truck, but always went right into gear. My new Moto Guzzi (2016 V7II Stone) shifts like its been massaged with the finest Italian cold pressed extra virgin olive oil. Yammy could take a lesson in how smooth that shift is. I rode a new Indian Springfield this past week. Clean, precise shifts with a firm lift of the shift pedal, but that had a gear engagement not unlike a 2-pound dead blow hammer on a big anvil. Wham!
