Terri passed her CMSF rider saftey class today. The instructor just kept saying "she will do fine if she just speeds up".

After the evaluation he said "I have good news and bad news, good news is you passed and bad news is I will be riding on the same streets with you"

I'm thinking how much she's going to love the FZ-6 w/ Givi side cases. :yahoo:

Jist tryin' tuh hep!

And please excuse me, but what kind of instructor tries to encourage a student to ride beyond their comfort zone? Most lady riders are more timid in the beginning and I know of at least one who doesn't want to finish the class because the "boys" were being aggressive and the instructor went with them.

Terri's "zone" will expand with experience....it's YOUR job to help her acclimate herself!

I video taped her riding and she couldn't believe how slow she was going, it seemed faster when she was on the bike. When she watched the tape she couldn't believe she kept the bike upright going that slow. :)

You're excused. :)

Actually, as you probably know, it is possible to ride too slowly. Neither of us were there to see how fast Terri was going but some students do need to speed up until they have some stability to actually help with their self-confidence. Her RiderCoach may actually have known exactly what he was talking about.

Congrats. Spend some time on the parking lot alone with her and then early Sat and Sun morning rides, before all other creatures wake up.

+1 Some parts of the class are rated on speed as much as anything else.Going way too slow, might be more dangerous then going way too fast :)

Most of the MSF Instructors/RiderCoaches really know their stuff, imo. Often they're seasoned riders (sometimes, not) who learn to teach riding skills and know what they're doing.

Speed: part of what a motorcycle does is dynamically related to speed (some more than others...). Fact of life. Also, there's a real world environment to ride in -- and it ain't slow.

Oh, congratulations to Terri. :)
