Winter finally hit here on the east coast (NY). Rode to work today, never got above 27degree's low 20's in the am. I was warm up top, widder vest, sleeves, gloves, thermals top/bottom. Leg's got cold even tucked in. I wore thermals under jeans under

my motoport pants.

What do you guys use to keep legs warm?

Well, I'm in N. VA and wear jeans and First Gear HT overpants w/liner if it's real cold. I usually wear my Kili II w/Liner on top unless it's real cold (29 or below) and then I throw on my Widder vest. Also have some FG winter gloves and heated grips. I'd rather ride in Dec here than in Jul/Aug!!

+1 on the HT overpants. And keep your knees tucked in close to the bike. Though I don't ride when it drops below freezing.

From Cycleport's website:

Temp range with optional Aero-Tex Waterproof/Windproof/Breathable Liner is -20F to 85F. Remove liner and ride in comfort from 50F to 120F. Wearing good Thermal Underwear under jeans with the Optional Liner zipped in will allow you to go sub zero.

You wearing the liners, FJrider1? I find they make a big difference, but then, I've only worn them under their Air Mesh pants.

Joe Rocket Alter Ego Pants. So far my legs have stayed warm even down to 18deg temps. It seem that as long as the rest of me stays warm, my legs never get cold.

I simply refrain from shaving my legs in the winter. Gets itchy at times, but wadaya gonna do?

Seriously, my lined Olympias are comfy to about 30ish, but I've only tested that temp range a couple of times.

When I got my 1995 Magna, 11 years ago I bought a Spartan Snowmobile

suit. It will keep you very warm on cold days! Just be careful of ice on the

roads. Try to just drive in daylight to spot sand also.

Don't you worry about ice on the roadway? Or salt? I left my bike at home Sunday, as it was 26 when time to leave for work. Not enough ice around here to take measures, so no sand or salt to deal with. Just ice from time to time (about every six years).

+1 on the Gore-Tex liners with my Motoport gear. No wind=no wind chill. And 300 weight polarfleece under the liners.

10-4 on the snowmobile gear. Even a cheap pair of snowmobile bibbed pants will work wonders over your other stuff. Plus, the bibbed top adds a bit of insulation to your torso and the sealing effect of the bibs up under your normal jacket helps reduce cold air leaks.

Gotta love snowmobile gear. If you look around enough you may find a dealer who is having a close out on the bibbed pants. I got a pair for my sled for $50! Not too bad.

Doesn't Aerostitch make a heated one piece suit? I know I have seen heated one piece suits being used. I am not sure which brand though. I see BMW riders here in the Bay Area of San Fran hooking up heat on their one pieces.

I wear a thermal hunting undies underneath jeans and then overpants on top. I also removed the insulation blanket I made for the other ten months from underneath the tank. Start the 05 in the garage and give her time to warm up while I gear up, turn on the music etc., and that heat problem emanating from around the tank keeps my legs nice and toasty.

Has anyone removed the thermal blanket

off an 06 for more heat????

Is anyone using heated pants liners?

I am getting ready to order heated gear, but I don't hear much talk about heated pants liners.

Are they worth the price?

Jeans and a pair of red ledge insulated ski pants that are windproof and water resistant. Have riden to as low as 5 degreees and felt fine. I find the fairing and the "heater" built into the '05 are more than sufficient.

Thanks for all the replys!

I tested, thermals, fleece jeans, my liner from my Olympia mesh pants (the motoport AX Voyager pants don't come with a liner) and the motoport overpants. Tested good down to 18f!

Only problem was swinging my leg over the bike!

Since I have the widder vest, sleeves, gloves I'll see about the chaps they sell... I'll probably get rid of half the bulk.

Oh, no ice yet... My commute is 25 miles each way all slab unless I take the long way home along the beach...
