Greetings! this is my first post as an FJR forum member. It looks like there is a wealth of excellent knowledge on this site just as there is on the FZ1 board, which I have been a member of for a long time. I do not have an FJR yet but suspect that I will by next weekend. :)

The Colorado Freewheelers motorcycle club in Colorado has been holding a 1000 mile in 24 hour event for around 25 years. It takes different routes every year. Unlike the 1088 in Utah, it is a more low key event where you run the route pretty much for the sake of doing it. There is not a first place or any sort of competition. That said, the Freewheelers do a good job of putting together a fun route with some challenge that is not apparent on the surface. For instance, last year the route went from Denver to the Black Hills to Devils Tower and back to Denver. Sounds easy right? I thought so too but when we spent 5 hours at an average of 20 mph in the Black Hills, it made the schedule a bit tighter. The 20 mph average speed was because of all the twisties and many small towns. The twisties were no problem for me on my FZ-1 but the small towns drove me nuts.

This year the route is a lap of the Colorado high country. It starts in Denver, heads north to Ft. Collins, west to Craig, south through Grand Junction to Durango, east to Walsenburg, and finally north to Denver. 1034 miles according to Street and Trips.

For anyone interested, here is the url.

Hopefully this year I will be doing it on an FJR. Not only will I be more comfortable, but I won't have to change the FZ's gearing back to stock!

Welcome to the asylum!

looks like a fun ride. I wish I could squeeze another "long weekend" in this year but I doubt it. :angry2:

I assume your waiting on an 06'?

Congrats.

Actually the future wife loves the silver one so we are searching for a 03 or 04. She rides a silver 06 Kawasaki Ninja 650R and wouldn't have to buy all new gear to match a silver FJR! I would need a little new stuff to color coordinate, like a jacket and lid. My stuff is all Black and Yellow because of the FZ.

We think that the FJR will be an excellent addition to the garage with the bonus of me being able to keep the fizzie a street fighter and not have to convert to a pseudo sport tourer for these long rides. That'll let me do more of them every year instead of just the local one. Plus, I told her I won't do distance events with her on her 650 because she has to stop for gas too often. :)

Well the 04' is the best/fastest/sexiest! :D

It's a bummer this is scheduled right on top of the IBA National meet. Otherwise I'd be all over this. Colorado is a BITCHIN' state for riding.

Last year it was a week before the IBA National Meet. I don't think anyone used it as a warm up ride though. :)

Did almost 200 miles today on the FZ. It was COLD above 8000' and too warm below 6000'. But, the good thing was their was NO traffic. A cold thursday must not be a good day for tourists to go 20 mph up the canyons.

Hmmmm...I'll be in CO (Morrison to be exact) that weekend. I can't say I'm all that fired up about the IBA meet (would love to see some faces but not really into the classes, etc). Maybe I'll ride this 1000-24 while I'm in town.

It looks like we will be doing it two up on the FJR this year. It will be Tina's first attempt at an endurance event of any kind. There will be one or two or three more going along. All but one are up in the air at this point. We are pretty casual about this one but try to maintain a good pace. If you are interested in joining up with us, let me know. Despite living here, I haven't been on to about half of route, but am assured by the one guy that is certain to go that it is beautiful almost all the way around the state.
