A lot of great rides are planned for NAFO 2008, and it is impossible for you to do all of them unless you extend your stay in Golden -- something worth considering. Additionally, there are a lot of other great rides (especially in southwestern Colorado) that you just can't do as day rides from Golden. As a result, you may want to do some advance planning on the rides that you will do while at NAFO, and also consider other routes in Colorado that you might want to include coming to or going from NAFO. I've provided some inputs to George and the Ride Committee on some great day rides from the Marriott and he is working on them now for the web site -- it is a big job. However, we'd like to go ahead and point you to some of the "other" Colorado rides for your consideration in making your travel plans. Rather than post the info here, I have posted it to my personal web site and you can find the information at:

Colorado Rides For Coming To and Leaving From NAFO

At that link you will find a map of Colorado showing the location of the routes and a description of each of the routes, along with a couple of photos.

Good luck in making some tough decisions! I hope that you find the information useful

Wow Dave! You've sure done the homework. Looking forward to meeting you this summer and doing some of your awesome rides!

DaveT, you have put together a great resource for Colorado riding. Those are all some great rides, and some of the best Colorado has to offer.

+1 on CO141 through Gateway. We were there a few years ago, when they were just starting up. The restaurant had only been open for a few days. We need to get back to see the car museum.

Also +1 on CO92 through Crawford. We left Gunnison one beautiful July morning, with the temperature in the 70's, not a cloud in the sky, and we had the whole road to ourselves. It's a wonderful twisty road. That ride still stands out in my mind as one of those times when everything came together, the perfect road, the perfect day, and the perfect ride. Pam Cocker used to have a restaurant and gift shop in Crawford that supported the Cocker Kids foundation. The gift shop was still open when we were last there. They used to give a bandana to anyone who rode in on a motorcycle. We still have our Mad Dog Ranch bandanas.

And wait until you see the rides out of Golden -- you know the roads, but to have them listed is pretty awesome. I think folks will be very pleased if they do any of them, but there are a couple of them that will rock and roll.

Dave,

You know, I am not an envious person but jeeeeeeese. The Coloardo area is beautiful. Here in Indiana you can traverse hills upwards of 75 ft - incredible!

I am so looking forward the riding in July and look forward to meeting you. Thank you for this info, I've already started plotting some of these rides on the gps.

We did a loop through Gateway last summer. That auto Museum is very state of the art. Resturaunt is done as well as most of the lodging. Very nice!

Right now, it looks like the trip to NAFO for me will not be 800 miles as first thought, but maybe 4000, as my son and I plan to ride, beginning July 5, from Arkansas thru K.C., across Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Washington, then back down Hwy. 101 to the Redwood Forest. Then east thru Reno and Salt Lake to Denver. We will try to minimize use of interstate highways, and mainly use a tent. By the time I get to Golden, I may need the week at NAFO to rest up for the ride home! Only foreseeable problem is my son rides a 22-year-old Magna. Talk about fuel-stops! By the way, would this qualify me for the IB Patch? Phil

Thanks Dave,

I know all those rides having done them all.

Thanks Dave,

The link to all those rides did not help with the wanting to get out and ride.

Here in Granby it is a warm 35 degrees. First time in two months that it has not snowed. Still 3 months till the bike comes out of hibernation for spring.

5 months till NAFO.
