While doing some research to compare DOT versus ECE helmet testing I can across the following NHTSA page.
Link
It was sad to see some helmets that failed performance testing, but I was happy to see my lid passed the test.
I am not attempting to create a debate of DOT versus ECE standards. I only post this as I found it interesting that 13 helmets failed DOT performance testing. The testing was not completed by NHTSA, it was completed by a 3rd party lab.
Edit:
Unless my math is incorrect, 33% of the 2007 random helmet inspections failed.
39 total random inspections and 13 failed performance testing.
