What seems to be the best to use? I'm planning my first 1000 and mapquest and MSN don't seem to want to let me plan point to point and then total the miles for the route.

You can't use online tools like you can use a locally installed software program. I like Microsoft Streets & Trips.

Concur that MS&T is pretty danged good.

However, I do see that GoogleMaps has added some pretty good functionality for via points since the last time I checked...and the routing is VERY fast every time you add a point.

I agree that the online tools are no match for MS S&T's but have you seen the yahoo beta maps?

Link to a Yahoo map of the NE1000 route

What's cool (for an on-line tool) is you can click and drag the waypoints up and down.

I've tried to use Delorme SA (local company) but I just don't like it. I need to use GPSU to get the data from S&T's into my Garmin 2610 but I think it's worth the extra steps.

You can also click and drag intermediate destinations in Google Maps. The user interface in Yahoo Maps is probably better, but the speed of Google Maps makes it my preference.

Here's the NE1000 in Google Maps: NE1000 route, for comparison purposes.
