Oh that can’t go unanswered. Some therapy may be needed alright, by feejers frightened by that fierce predatory face soon to be released by big K! Course, the predator’s face is not what one sees when typically riding “in tow”. :D

Hey! Git outta here, you non-FJR owner! Skat! Away with you, you traitor! :****:

(Psssst, you giving test rides when yours gets in?)

Well, ta ta to you as the C14 will have hydraulic lifters... reliably rumored.
I would like to know the source of that reliable rumor since it has been floating around since

Day 1 and there hasn't been anything from Kawasaki that would suggest the rumor is true.
I don't really see any need for hydraulic lifters. All they need to do is imitate what Yamaha has done with the FJR. Very few have reported making any adjustment at the valve check intervals on their FJR.
Maybe, but mine needed valves adjusted in 3 of the cylinders.

I might have my valvels checked at 20k unless I have reason to do so earlier.
Why would you have your valvels :p checked 6000 miles before they are due for that check?

Maybe, but mine needed valves adjusted in 3 of the cylinders.
And they were on the tight side. Not good.

Of course he was a bit past the 26,000 mile interval, and he rides like a 14 year old drama queen............

what's all this discussion about? I simply stated a fact. I don't need all this conjecture. I made the determination for us. Now go forth and ride the FJR.

It really dosen't fit to put heavier lifters on a 10k+ rpm motor, ya think?

My view is Kaw has had to come from behind on this one as they configured the engine as a shorter stroke (60mm) sport engine. Nice one at that. But Yamaha went with a clean sheet of paper, since this was for the FJR alone and went with a longer (66.2) torque advantaged stroke that works even with low compression. Yamaha would have the same disadvantage trying to match the high RPM output of the ZX-14 in a sport application with high compression.

No, No, I won’t go. I won’t go.

Whaaaa…!! A test-ride, on my trusty steed? :shok:

Well, hmmm… who knows what might be arranged. :bike:

Valves….smalves. One thing I really don’t like is where it looks like they put the oil filter. :eek:hno-smiley02: Course, I've not seen the bike in person yet.

Yeah, Our bikes are nice enough to let us know audibly when it's time to adjust our valves right after we replace the worn out guides.

I had my valves adjusted at 9500 miles. They had to adjust them when they pulled the head to replace the valve guides. Bought me 10K miles before I need to have them checked :yahoo:

(sorry fred...didn't see your post)

The Concour's valve clearance adjustment schedule will likely be similar to the FJR's schedule. The camshafts, lifters, etc. should be very similar to those in the FJR.

The variable control scheme rotates the chain sprocket on the intake camshaft. It can rotate the camshaft a few degrees back and forth relative to the chain sprocket.

CONSTANT MESH.......

HEY GUY YOU MAY WANT TO RE-CHECK YOUR MECHANICAL STATEMENTS... DID YOU FORGET THAT THIS IS A VVT CAM DRIVING SYSTEM? THE TIMING ACTUATOR IS CONTROLLED BY THE OIL PRESSURE. SPECIFICALLY FROM THE ENGINE OIL PUMP CONTROL VALVE. NOTHING CLOSE TO THE FJR'S CAMSHAFT SYSTEM. THE FEW THINGS THESE VALVE SYSTEMS HAVE IN COMMON ARE A SET OF CAMSHAFTS, CHAIN AND I SUPPOSE VALVES TOO!! ALSO THE VALVE CHECKS ARE REQUIRED 4X SOONER THAN THE FJR'S.

The oil pressure actuator has nothing to do with the valve clearances. The interface between the camshaft and the valve lifters should be very similar to the FJR. The only thing different about this scheme from the FJR is the mechanism on the end of the intake camshaft that allows the camshaft to rotate a small amount relative to the chain sprocket. This mechanism is oil actuated by an ECU controlled valve.

None of this mechanism should have any effect on the periodic valve clearance checks/adjustments.

Now, I agree. Though, as I posted, the Kawasaki dealer here in MN has stated that the valve interval check/adjustment period on the new C14 is every 6000 miles (4x of that of the FJR) as it is on the ZX14 and my ZX10R. :yahoo:

Running for office there, Mikey?

Tired and tired of reading Bovine Feces about theories and hopes. In this sleep deprived state I tend to do better with "actual facts" rather than the "rumors and dreams" some use to base their argument on.

Perhaps I should turn this ***** box off and go to bed. See ya'!
