I'm pushing 20K on my Rick Mayer saddle now. Still very happy with the looks and finish of the seat. I'm able to slide my butt forth and back in the twisties, have a nice cushion for the slabs, and inexpensive as custom seats go. Longest days have been roughly 14 hours in the saddle followed by about 10 hours the next day.

OrangevaleFJR,

Thanks for the invite. I'm green-as-grass as far as group rides go, at least partly because I'm not too sure I have the temperament to ride in a group. (Dang, I can get testy when more than 3 people - if they're a mismatched group - try to get together for lunch). Seems like there'd be people who'd want to go faster and others who'd want to stop at every coffee joint - hard to believe a group run could be as fun as choosing your own pace, lines, and destinations. I'll keep an eye on the NorCal rides, maybe I just need to give it a try...

I rode exclusively alone for many years and didn't ever go on a group ride until about 3 years ago. Not so much for personality reasons, but for the quality of the ride. I have found that at times I do get a bit bored behind a slow group, sometimes I pull over and let people pass and other times I hit a pace with another rider, or riders and we have a blast. The best part of it all is the story telling at breaks. That said, I have had days were we barely broke 150 miles with a group, then I've had several 600+ mile days and even a 1000 mile day in a group. It's been really fun and you might want to give it a shot. I'll always have my private rides, but the group rides are a lot more fun than I ever expected them to be.

If you like the shape of the stock seat, just send it to Sargent and have them put in thier foam with your seat covering. Cheap and you get a great seat that will not get soft after 1000 miles. I had the front done on my bike for about $125. Sargent service is the best.

+1 on O'Vale said about the seats and the NorCal rides. I have never had the privledge of owning a Russle or Mayer seat, but as of now I am in the process of designing my own seat. Have the foam and has been tested. After my current project I will start putting together the seat on my personal bike after the first of the year. Don't feel uptight about the group rides. I'm still in the learning curve and usually am the last one to lunch, lol. But not to worry a good bunch in the NorCal group and fun rides. Way better than being alone though some days thats what I got to do. About the seat, I remember reading Bill Mayer once made a quote that a good seat is 90% design and 10% foam. The more area supporting you rear on an equal plane will give you the best results. Good luck. PM. :D <><
