Considering 2010 FJR or 2010 K1300GT

I am a big guy at 6'3 , like to ride weekends, Currently ride a VTX1800 looking for more sport.

FJR1300 - Haven't ridden one, dealer network not too friendly. Read reviews and sat on one though.

K1300GT - Test ride was sweet, great bike - worried about maintenance cost and dependability.

The K1300 was perfect for my stature and weight - How is the FJR for big guys? Any help in this decision would be great.

Greetings,

Took out the K1300 GT out last year on a dealer promo, rode for about 30min.

It was a good bike but nothing on the FJR.

I'm 194cm, 110Kg find the bike lovely.

Can do 1200 kms a day, but the seat is terrible.

Cheers

I am 6' 5" 260 lbs. Never had an issue. My inseam is 34 inches. So not sure of the rest of your measurements. The big thing with the FJR is power and speed. My 03 is the first year and they are the lightest. Make the decision that is best for you and your riding style. After you buy the FJR we can help you spend all the money you save by not buying the BMW.

I'm 6'3", 185, 34" inseam, and the FJR fits me fine. Just did 2200+ miles in three days, all stock. Only adders I would want are cruise control and possibly GPS. And driving lights when out west after dark.

My brother has the K bike - it feels a bit quicker, and has a whole mess of nice things built into it - heated grips/seats and cruise are the biggies, Xenon low beam from the factory. Traction control, if you're into that.

What kind of riding do you intend to do? If you are putting around on the weekends, how far do you venture?

How far is the local BMW dealership?

How long do you plan on keeping the bike?

Just watch the recalls on the BMW, and think about the fact that they're going to the K1600 from the K1300. Doesn't mean the K13 is a bad bike, it's just already being replaced.

The FJR is made for big guy's.

I am 5' 10" had to add lowering kit

Shorten side stand

Shorten center stand 4 times before I got it right.

(the foot pedal is now on the right)

Seriously?! you're 5' 10" and you had to add a lowering kit ?! Hell, if I was even 5' 7" I probably wouldn't have lowered my Feej.

Sorry - I don't get it

BTW, I've seen the posts about the guys - presumably the "big guys" - switching out the mirrors because they're "sick of looking at <their> elbows in the mirrors". Being 120 lbs and a shortie, my mirrors are perfect. So the FJR isn't made just for big guys :p
