IF you can, see if you can ride one of the new big-bore naked bikes (Bandit or FZ-1. It would be interesting to compare a faired bike with a naked bike. If it is truly and effect of the temperature and road heat rather than the fairing on the FJR, that might modify your actions to ameliorate your discomfort.
MM,

I’ve ridden one of the 1250 Bandits. IMO the 08 FJR produces more of the hair-dryer—forced heated air at specific locations--effect than the Bandit. I wonder if some of the fairing’s insulating foam has been removed from or rearranged on the 08 as compared to the 06 & 07?

Some people have removed the foam thinking it was "packing material".

OTH, when my fan is on (at intersections or "very" slow traffic) I feel the blast of heat out the side vents and particularly on my right shin/lower leg. Though mine is a Gen I, it might have something to do with how the air is forced out of the engine bay through the side vents.

What riding gear are you wearing? I rode my 08 to AZ last week and it was 107 yes it was fricken hot but with my boots and riding pants on it didnt bother me to much. The only time I really felt the heat on my legs was at a stop light but even then it wasnt to bad. If I was wearing jeans and tennis shoes then it could have been different.

Paid Political Announcement:

It can be physically dangerous to ride in 98+ degree temps. At that temp, exterior wind temps no longer provide cooling but actually heat the body more.

All the more reason to ride fully-covered in the right gear and be mindful of hydrating and stay tuned to how your body feels.

I only provide this reminder because I did not respect the heat and had an ... ahem ... "incident" in the California desert a couple of years ago. ;)

(End of paid political announcement)

up until 2 days ago i was wearing my boots and first gear h20 overpants and my legs only really got hot in the thigh area. then i finally bought me a pair of cheap mesh pants, now my shins are getting hot but my thighs are comfortable. i believe it has to do with what you are wearing
You do have hot thighs, you little minx!

I`m not no newbie to riding motorcycles and had many motorcycles in my years. Never had a sport or sport tourer until this machine. As to selling it as stated for an ice cream truck, I think the Goldwing is the best offer which I am considering at this point. Had one for 4 years and loved it but got out of riding for the last 3 yrs. The heat is coming from between the engine and the flairing, it`s a good size gap. Not the outside of the flairing. Like I stated, I love the handling and the power but not thrilled about the heat on the inside of the shins.. Yes, when I had the Electra Glide Classic the inside of my thighs and balls got cooked especially when stopped. I always was and always will be a sneaker and jeans rider, except when I play in the trails with the dirt bike.

Well, enjoy the shins then. The bikes aerodynamics won't change, good luck w/ the "flairing". Shooooooooooooo Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, it's friday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave, Ya need to shave those shins friend...and then...aaawww, I cant..its Friday and I just cant....just go faster buddy...or put on some highway pegs and do the gynaglide thing...oh just stop...

Blessings,

Bobby

Earlier this week it was 102 when I left work and I felt the heat on my legs thru my boots. Later in the week it was 90 & the ride felt nice. Man that extra 12 degrees sucks but it could be worse (I could be driving my car.)

I have an 08 model A. Sunday the temp was in the mid 90`s, put 74 miles on it and had my shins cooked. If I open up the side vent on each side, will it take the heat off the shins? That heat is terrible.
Thanks,

Dave
dave3d,,,, I'm another FNG to the FJR ( '08') ,,,, last week riding ,, temp around 90,,, some stop and go traffic ,,jeans & riding boots,,

and I noticed my left lower leg getting rather warm,,, thought it was odd for just my left leg to cook ,,,

other than that ,,just love the air I get with windshield down on the FJR,,, :yahoo:

my Concours is a whole body cooker when it's hot out,, rode a yamaha ventura once ,,, now that's a Real cooker

of course it could be that I'm old and all my systems aren't working as good as they should be,, :dribble:
