Quick, yes those last links worked... at least the map did. I didn't bother checking the directions once I saw the map. It's almost the exact same route that I'm going to be uploading, so I'm pretty sure I know where you're going.

But... that brings to mind a favor I could use from someone... I think a nice "relaxing" ride would include 441 through the Smokey Nat'l Park. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to check that out. Can someone let me know if that road is really usable or is it going to be a parking lot with all the tourists? If it moves at a reasonable pace and is fairly scenic, I think it would be a nice fit for a couples ride (or even a singles ride - I'd like to see it). I'm just worried about how much traffic there is on it. If someone can verify that, I'd think that most everyone will run the route we're discussing now and also the Way(ah) Out There route. That will pretty much cover all the "must see" roads in the area. Then, the couples ride can just be a more relaxed group running one route one day and the other the next - probably in the opposite direction from the more aggresive riders, who might want to hit the dragon and 28 right away.

I can see myself spending plenty of time on 441 if it's not a parking lot.

There's something wrong with me. I still can't open any of Quick's Yahoo links. Anyone have a suggestion? I get an alert that tells me the address can't be found. :eh:

441 is a neat road that acutally does a 360 loop at one point. I rode the whole thing and never leaned the bike on a Sunday morning. It was not a parking lot, we were going at a brisk walking pace!

I think there is a warning about traffic on this road at the dragon website.

all this talk about a great ride at a good pace, guess i'll be bringing my blow-up girlfriend... lol... :arrowhead:

Geek, you kids should just get hitched AT EOM!!! Then you can lead the parade. Dangle shoes from your Feejer. Ride in your duds. Hope her train isn't too long, though.

See you there!

FYI, if you get anywhere near Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, or Servierville, the traffice is instantly Hideous. I would avoid using this areas in ANY of your riding plans, even if you have to go an hour out of the way. The traffic will make up for it.

HEhehe

that would be awesome!!!

we were going to get hitched at the Tapoca Lodge near the dragon ... but her parents and Gparents drove up there and saw 3 wrecks last saturday ( the 350 that came over the line and hit the biker) so they aren't to big on going up there again ... that was august 21st... shots of it on killboy ...

I'll still be there, cause I'm anxious to ride with other FJRs... and to see your all's farkles ... I'm just starting to set my bike up ... and need ideas!!

I'll still do the couples ride, cause I still ride like I have a passenger even when solo =) heheh ( only 7300k since feb, im a slacker)

Thanks for the inputs guys.We might still rearrange rest stops based on the group.

I put some more thought into the route and decided to shorten it a little to allow for more socializing for this particular ride.

So let's see if I can get links to work:

Couple's Ride Map

Couple's Ride Directions

New Start Time

Sunday morning 8:00 from Tally Ho.

Lunch at the bottom of the dragon at the end of the loop.

Of course, 2-up not required. Anyone feeling socialable can join in.

I will also work on getting it listed on the EOM web site, after you know who gets back from Townsend.

This is gonna be great!!!!
Count us in for the TWO ride. My wife and I have never been to the mountains on a bike but have dreamed of it for many years.

onecooltngeek, where exactly are the waterfalls? I can't find that or the road you referred to on any of my maps.

Quicksilver, Yahoo has hosed your maps again. Can you send me one of the routes you made so I can whip one up for the site? (email me - [email protected] ) I've got a bit of time down here at my folks place so will be updating all the routes while I can.

Thanks guys. :)

Quick, I tried to open your map and directions, and I get an access denied message from Yahoo.

Perhaps the weather will be different when we are there, but last week when I was on the dragon at 8 and on Cherohala by 9, they were both bone dry. Maybe I was lucky. Then again, I didn't really get to enjoy the Smoky aspect of the mountains. The time I was there before that, there were clouds on Cherohala and rain on all the roads.

Man..this is frustrating.

It seems Yahoo will let me designate files for public sharing.

But, it is not permenant.

Some time later it reverts back to private.(maybe after my log in times out?)

What a Pain in the A**.

Since we only have a few days left, I will try to keep refreshing the public file designation to keep the link working. I hope it will also be going up on the EOM website for easier viewing.

For future stuff, anyone have a recommended site for file sharing?

Yahoo seems to not be getting it done. <_<

Success! Yahoo finally lemme take a looksee.

That is a very nice route. I've done that one a couple times now and everyone will enjoy it. The only thing is that I had NO idea there were falls anywhere, so I'm gonna make that a must see. The vistas along that ride are just awesome. And the roads are in very good condition.

The only exceptions are in NC. The road right out of the TOTD heading towards Robbinsville is lousy pavement for part of the trip. Also, where you get to the sign near the park entrance that says "TO SKYWAY" or whatever, that road is patchy and has some gravel. Even at that, those roads aren't THAT bad. And well worth the (minor) trouble.

There is one stop just before you really get into the heart of the Dragon that I would recommend as a brief stop. It's fairly early on. Going south, there is a rock retaining wall with a spectacular vista. There are typically a few bikes stopped there, usually resting up from the trip north for the return trip through the Dragon south. There isn't much opportunity through the Dragon for sightseeing, but there are a few places to get off if you need a break or want to let someone by.

On one of the days I'm going to ride to Fontana Dam (Lodge) and then down to the SE and back up through the Dragon. That should be a nice ride too. Hope the traffic isn't oppressive.

Just getting my new Road pilots installed today so SAT looks like a great day to break them in =) eehhe :D ( wanted the avon's but there was a misship issue, but it was resolved nicely, I'll get them next time)...

I can't be there tonight for any festivities, but the SO and I are leaving SAT AM to be down there. Will be at Tally-HO around 9:30-10 am to meet and hang out a bit before the 10:30 leave time...

Hopefully it will be dry there.. as it is raining right now in knoxville =-(
