Tunnel Vision

This recent footage from security cameras located in Moscow's newly-opened Lefortovo Tunnel shows a series of bad accidents, probably caused by the usual lethal mix of excessive speed and poor control.

The fact that the tunnel is curved and fairly narrow does not help, either.

Hate to be riding a bike in there when the next Crazy Ivan starts ricocheting off the tunnel walls...

I was in Moscow and Vladimir a few years back to adopt 2 little girls.

The Russians are nuts when they drive. Lanes are just suggestions, and speed limits are viewed as minimums. I thought I was dead, but it worked out.

When the two trucks collide, notice the BMW and the pickup right behind it that are in the middle lane react to the emergency with great deciciveness by immediately hitting their indicators so that they can get into the lane of traffic that can still move.

Amazing how quickly the urge to get where we are going override's the importance of whether the people in the trucks are hurt, or not.

Unlike US drivers, whose concern is legendary. Not. ;)

Stef, this isn't about vehicles but I found it on the same site. Talk about your feel good story. It almost made me tear up.

Gypsy,

Saw that last night on the news. Got a big lump in my throat watching. They said there are already Hollywood types wanting the movie rights to his story.

I agree...hence the term "we" as a collective jibe at drivers in general.

Actually, I was thinking this way before that scene as precaution of the people behind me running me over. Getting to the other side of the accident at least before checking on them might be a smart move...

:eek:fftopic:

Aaaw..crap. Let me hijack my own thread. Screw the freakin' tunnel...

That teenage autistic basketball player had me clapping hands while I was watching the video. Awesome :fan:

Back to the Russki tunnel.

Yeah Sparky, I would have made sure I was out of the line of fire before even thinking about the guys in the trucks...No way I can help anybody when I have 4,000lbs of Russian metal rear-ending my Lada at 60+ mph.

Meanwhile, the autistic kid that maxed the math final..........

Ruskies need to learn the benefits of ABS...

Rad, staring at the telephone, petting your cat and contemplating the multiple uses of tube socks still won't get you a date to the prom...

yah, good point.

I bet they are thinking, "don't slow me down!"

True, I am sure they weren't doing it for my reasons but a smart move none the less :D

Can't ride when you're dead, and a temp of 50 qualifies.

Amazing to watch that tandem bus continue on after slapping both sides of the tunnel.
