Am I thinking correctly? Isn't it a rather poor design that has this type of scheduled maintenance? Seems like better bearings or a better design would take zerk fittings so that many miles later, if the swing arm has to come off at all, the bearings would be *replaced*, not repacked.
Anybody have experience with the cost of 16,000 mile service performed by a dealer?
Here's my advice. Many may disagree.
Ride more, worry less.
My 04 FJR is just over 5 years old with 154,000 miles. I have never done one thing to the swingarm bearings. Nor have I ever repacked the steering head bearings. And everything is still okie-dokie in my FJR's world. (As long as I am not crashing it)
To have a dealer do some of these things would cost a plenty. And they you would have to worry if they actually did it right. BTW, it was a very experienced Yamaha wrench that told me not to worry about servicing the swingarm and steering head bearings.
