Read something about a Russel seat and that they have a "skirt" that fills the space between the fuel tank and seat. So, after putting Maxine back together this last time after doing what I don't remember, I stuck that window insulation (you know, 3/8" thick sticky on the bottom) around the back of the tank so that when putting the seat back on, it filled the space between the tank and the seat. Well, about a half hour into my next ride I heard this odd "slapping" sound in my ears; huh, seat belt stowed (took off once in a Cesna with the seat belt flapping like mad stuck outside the door), nothing else loose.....ooooooh, I looked down and it was the "boys" clapping wildly (mild discomfort associated with the clapping) at the significant heat reduction! That simple addition of 50 cents worth of foam did wonders - no more sauna like environment for the young fellas. I'm sure this little gem of a mod has been mentioned before, but for those who haven't tried it it sure is worth the little effort it takes to accomplish!

And if I could figure out how to do it I'd change "Crouch" to "Crotch!!"

What's the big idea of bringing a mod to this forum without at least 3 pages of detailed instructions and pictures? Shame on you!

Just so we're clear here, I think that FJRDriver is asking for pictures of the weather stripping mod, not pictures of "the boys". Please spare us that trauma. Some pics of the mod would be pretty cool though. Please?

Yes, recent posts are all out of whack. "Wife stepped out of the shower" has NO pics, Jim's crotch relief is being begged for pictures.

What is this world coming to???!!!

I am embarrassed that I read the whole article. I wanting to just skip to the end but in a sick way I wanted to know how the story was going to finish. +2 on not sharing any pictures of the boys. :stop: :stop:

No need to be embarassed. None of us would have read this thread IF it had been titled "Crotch Relief" with JimLor as the author. I mean, who the heck wants to know anything about Jim's crotch!

:)

Here are two pictures w/different flash settings. The horizontal stripe at the rear of the tank is the stick on insulation. Wish I could say it took 2 hours and cost $200, but it took about 30 seconds and cost probably fiddy cent. You can also see that I've shoved the gray/grey pipe insulation under the tank in various places. Next step is to put the stick on insulation along the black plastic panel that sits under the tank (verticle) to seal that part of the seat/tank intersection. The stick on around the tank has really worked well - rode to work today and it was God awful (actual to work was great, coming home the heat was bad), I got home and the temp was 101.9 w/65% humidity. The boys were comfortable the entire ride. I would have posted these pictures sooner, but heck, I thought I was the only one with a Gen I bike that hadn't done this yet!

Heck, darn and pshaw. I thought everybody knew about the "ol' weatherstrip trick". Guess its good yer hear tuh edumacate'em!

PS: That's what I did on the '04 pre-Russell. And, like K-tel, it really really works!

Well whadaya know  The FJR can pull duty as a means of Birth Control. Fancy that
:jester:

Tried it. Worked for months, then it rained for a week. First one's almost 21 months old now. Worked again last winter until, you guessed it, rain for a week - #2 is due in December... I foresee a visit to the nice MD with the shiny tools in the near future.
