So I just bought an FJR1300A (2006, US) less than 24 hours ago and I'm wanting to add cruise control & heated grips.  I've tried searching the internet, however most of my searches come up with broken links anymore.

Anyways

Question #1 - I understand it that Gen 2s are pre-wired for heated grips.  What's the OEM P/N for these heated grips?  Can I just use Oxford grips - and adapt them to the pre-existing connectors (Using the assumption that the pre-wiring supplies switched power)?

Question #2 - For installing Rostra cruise control, can I presume that I need the universal kit? I can only find one guide (CruiseControlGuide), all other links are not working.

Question #3 - Can I get a confirmation that all gen 2's (U.S.) have ABS as standard (for use w/ Rostra Cruise Control)

Go IOWA.

I went to the Orange Bowl years ago and IOWA was playing. I was rooting for the other team, but sitting in a large group of IOWA fans. What a great group of people. I have rooted for IOWA ever since {as long as they aren't playing Florida}.

Yes, ALL Gen. 2 FJR's have ABS. ABS was NOT an option in 2003, became an OPTION in 04 and 05, but without linked brakes, and every FJR from 06 on has ABS AND linked brakes {The linked brake system and ABS changed slightly in the 08 model year.

I am not sure whether the aftermarket stuff works with the connection harness or not - you might have to try.  The GENUINE Yamaha heated grips that are specifically designed to work with the harness are something like $400!!.  The first link above does not list fitment for the FJR but doesn't mean it wouldn't work.  I would look at some sort of aftermarket solution (like Oxford or the Aerostitch option, above).

OneWound, Here is some info on install for Rostra CC https://www.fjrforum.com/topic/167655-gen-ii-rostra-cruise-control-install/?tab=comments#comment-1303689

I've been looking at the Koso Apollo Heated Grips. Here is some info about experiences https://www.fjrforum.com/topic/161100-tecno-globe-koso-appolo-heated-grips-with-embedded-controller-on-the-left-gripphotos/?tab=comments#comment-1195035 They have them on Amazon, Revzilla, Dennis Kirk and others. They are more expensive than Oxford but are a cleaner in stall, no extra controller to mount on handle bars. Cheaper than the Yamaha ones.

Good Luck with your Quest!😎

Welcome to the forum OneWound.

I used a bunch of info from this forum to install a Rostra and Oxfords on my Gen2

What I bought

Make sure you get the adv version of the oxfords

https://www.twistedthrottle.com/oxford-heaterz-premium-adventure-motorcycle-heated-grips

Probably easier just to wire in the Oxfords from scratch. Yamaha wires the OEM grips in series and the OEM kit control switch ties in with the ECU. The Oxfords need to be wired in parallel.

Edit: kmanflyer posted the same link as I was typing. Kelvininin is going to get bigheaded ;)

1911, We must have hit "Submit Reply" at the same time.😃

I was going to add for the OP, if you don't have hand guards they would make the heated grips work even better. They can easily be removed for summer if so inclined. Even though they keep bugs off your hands as well as the cold wind. These are pretty nice, they are the newer version of the ones I have. https://www.partzilla.com/product/suzuki/57300-31851-291

Consider the CCS100 cruise control. Takes more work to fit than the Rostra, but is significantly cheaper.

You can see my take on its  fitting in this thread. Mine was to a Y-CCS variant of FJR, but this shouldn't make much difference

There are a few more threads on fitting the CCS100 to the FJR, this is the only one I have kept track of (since it was mine!).

Awesome, thank y'all for the replies.  From what I can tell.. there's only person who has a well documented FJR install that still works.

Regardless, lets say I use Oxford Adventure grips (I'm curious why are they recommended over a "standard" oxford grip?). Is there easy access to switched power?  Does someone sell an outlet (in the glove box thingy) that has an extra plug I can tap into? Can it also handle 5A (or do I just need to increase the fuse size on in the fuse box...?)

Increasing the fuse size is a bad idea. The fuse is there to protect the wiring, which is not rated to carry more current. You risk overheating the wiring loom.

Add a wire to the battery, with an in-line fuse close to the terminal. Use a relay to switch that, the relay coil can certainly be powered from the glove-box outlet, or any other ignition controlled circuit (such as side-lights).

The FJR grips are longer than the standard m/c grip. The Adv version is longer than the standard or touring version and matches the length of the FJR grip area and throttle tube.

So when adding this fuse/relay box, is there a suggestion on the maximum amount of current I should plan for on a FJR?  Or will that be limited by the input to the relay block (I've always assumed fuses have been there for components, not for wires). Also, thank you for the help so far!

Is there a glove-box outlet that splits off an extra connector, to tie it into a relay? Or am I stuck with doing it by hand?

I used the wire to the glove-box outlet to tie it into a relay.

Google for "wiring diagram for FJR 1300".

(It´s against the forum rules to give it to you)

Okay.  Another side note on the glove-box relay.. if I were to tire the power for the glove-box into the relay (to active the relay) and put the glove-box outlet (and replace all the wires) wouldn't that be better? That way, I can provide more amps to whatever I want to draw power draw as well.

In addition, what amps should I drive into the relay? The max rated amps for the relay?

I apologize for the amount of questions, trying to do this right from the get-go.

Another question (cause I can't figure out how to edit previous posts)

Whats the benefit of going with a product from Centech vs getting a "blade fuse box" that would do the same thing?

“Blade fuse box” doesn’t sound sexy

and won’t impress your friends. j/k

You can find everything you need,

from plain to fancy, at Eastern Beaver.

Is the CCS-100 available for sale anywhere?  I don't even see the generic one on murphskits.com anymore.

I can't really help you there. I got mine imported into the UK from Murphys back in 2011. I know they sold it for some time after that, but don't know about now. I think they still sell some of the auxiliary parts (see here). Might be worth getting in touch with them, see if they have any tucked away somewhere.
