If you think a cruise ship is fast at 27mph, consider the Navy's nuclear carriers. Top-end speed is classified, but has been reported at near or above 40mph. Imagine a ship the size and weight of a small city moving at 40mph through the ocean! Wow! Plus, they actually have Phalanx guns!
Yea, the cruise ships nowadays are pretty anemic compared to yesteryear's best. More than half a century ago, for example, the SS United States, averaging 40 mph on its maiden ocean voyage, had a top speed of exceeding 50 mph. Of course by voyage's end, the bow paint at the waterline needed a bit of touch-up. No Phalanx guns though... :)

And, according to Amsoil, gained 33,421 HP when on their Premium Synthetic Gear Lube!

The speed is a function of the waterline length. 1.34 times the square root of the waterline will give you hull speed. All you need is the HP to go along with it.

I have been working with cruise ships for 8 years (Disney Cruise Line)Big cruise ships use to have up to 130.000 horses.

Yes right, just little bit more then FJR
Dude, if that person with those teeth in your avatar is you, I'm never taking my 7 year old daughter to Disney-anything again. It'll scare her! ;)
