I rode with my friend Ovis down to Chatsworth GA to look at a junkyard for motorcycles he had heard about, it turned out to be a motorcycle mechanic that found good deals on bikes and kept them in his back yard and garage. The most impressive one was an old Indian Chief in running condition. The guy would sell pieces of the bikes but it was like asking for his first born, he liked keeping them around. He had I would guess over 200 frames of motorcycles with motors and parts scattered all in his back yard and garage. I saw old Triumphs, BSA, from the 60's just sitting there on a raised platform. :dribble:

After lunch we rode over Fort Mountain, stopped at Mercier's for fried apple pie and then headed home.

My friend Ovis,

We used to have the same bike till I bought my FJR.

It was a hot 90 degree hazy day that day.

Next day I rode with my other friends, Karl and Larry and we rode up Hwy 68 from Ducktown TN to Tellico Plains, over the Cherohala Skyway, and then down Wayah Road.

Hwy 68 goes through the Smoky Mountains and has a variety of both sweepers and S-curves. The Chrohala is almost all sweepers along the top of both the Cherokee and Nantahala forests. Wayah roads has the sweepers, s-curves and switch backs as well, by the end of the day I was exhausted and had 100 miles to ride back home, thankfully it was on four lane highways to get back home.

Here we are at the end of the Chrerohala, Larry's very fast 919, Karl's go anywhere BMW 1150, and my FJR:

Here I am at the end of Wayah road resting for our ride back home, we all had about a 100 mile ride to get back home from here.

Hey calabash, nice pics. :p

Terry G and I were out blazing trails not too far from your neck of the woods this past Saturday. Well, at least as close as Pikeville anyway. Was trying to get a good look at the seat on your bike in the fourth pic but couldn’t quite make it out. Is it stock? Looks like your shield is stock. If so, how is it treating ya?

If you’re interested in meeting up with other TN fellow forum members (FFMs) and making tracks sometime, let me know.

Hey calabash,Where is wayah road?

If you ride the dragon on 129 and go into Robinsville NC and keep on 129 south through town, the road (129) will dead end onto hwy 19 make a left and go about 2 miles, I am pretty sure it is the first right after you turn onto 19, the signs say "wayah bald" Make the right turn and it will go for over 20 miles and end up at a gas station on the right. Make another right there and it will take you onto hwy 64 make a right there and it will take you back west to hwy 19 eventually. P.S. This is not a well known road and only a handful of bikes are on it so it isn't crowded at all.

I would love to hook up with you guys on a weekend, just let me know ahead of time and I will make time to ride. Yep, my shield is stock, it is OK, I think I want a bigger one with the holes cut out near the bottom, right now I adjust it to hit the top of my helmet to keep me cooled off on hot days, and all the way up to keep the rain off.

Here are some pics of my seat: it is from Alaska Leather made of sheepskin, https://www.alaskaleather.com/ it helps on the long rides. I got the size they recommended I think it is medium.

Calabash,

Your post, "I would love to hook up with you guys on a weekend, just let me know ahead of time and I will make time to ride."

Sounds good, will do. :p

And thanks for going to the trouble of posting that pic of your seat, and the product link. That looks neat. I’ve been thinking about an aftermarket seat. In the interim, my wife made me a cushion.

I guess it goes without saying that the sheepskin isn’t too hot under ya during the summer or you wouldn’t have it on there. But, is it something you’re just trying for the near term or is it a keeper?

The sheepskin is a cheap alternative till I get the money to get a corbin seat and the smuggler or a cheaper copy.
