There were 2 FJR's to demo at Houston. You need long pants, high top shoes/boots, helmet and eye protection. They recommend a jacket and gloves. You also need a motorcycle endorsement on your license. Each company had a seperate trailer and sign up area but they were next to each other. Kawasaki had a TV screen that listed all the test bikes and how many available slots were open. This way you could see if it was worth standing in line or you could leave if the bike you wanted was booked up for the day. Fill out some paperwork, tell them what bike you want, they tell you what time it is available and give you a ride ticket. We were able to sign up for two test rides at one time. Show up at your scheduled time, listen to a short safety speech about keeping all the wheels on the ground and any speeding ticket you get is yours. They have a lead rider and a back of the pack rider to help if the group gets seperated. 8 bikes at a time. 24 bikes in the demo pool.
The Yamaha booth was about the same except they had a white board and only listed a bike after it got totally booked. I walked right up and they had the Auto FJR available so I got on it with no waiting. Just had to sign the Yamaha waiver. Took the same route.
Victory had a booth also but I didn't try it.
I'm not sure if all the shows have Demo rides. Check the web site first. My advice is to get there early and schedule your demo rides on the bikes you want for later in the day. Go see the show without being all sweaty or having to carry your gear all day. You can also hang around and possibly get a bike if someone doesn't show up on time but you just get what's available then.
