My pops bought one of these. I rode it on many occasions, and it is deceptively fast. The CVT transmission keeps the engine running at peak RPM for performance, or fuel economy, depending on how hard the throttle is twisted. Lots of fun, decent handling, huge comfortable seat, and now it's offered with ABS and an electric adjustable windshield. I know 35 is too young to be seen on a scooter (in the US), but I really like this thing.

I once rode with Honda Al, the local Honda dealer. He's 70, 75 or so. He was on Silver Wing. The rest of us were on sport bikes, well, I was on my VFR. He spanked all of us. Seriously whooped up on all of us. Course, you could give him a moped and he'd do the same.

Every time I think i have too many bikes and should sell my Burgy i get on the dam thing and ride it. So far i still have it. It is faster than most cruisers, downhill following wind it will do about 115 mph, cruises at 90 no sweat, out corners all cruisers and has a better ride. It is comfortable, great storage capacity and the only thing that is not up to par for a cruiser is the limited range.

It is a very good hybrid bike with scooter like looks and conveniences. Not really a scooter as the engine is in front of the rider. It is the biggest bike i have! Weighs 500 + lbs. C of G so low you don't notice the weight.

It lead the field in design when you look at the new bikes coming from Honda and the rest.

Using it to practice up for my AE with the manual gear change mode selected.

I talked to my wife tonight, about the Burgman as a possible purchase next year. She says, "I'm just afraid you'll feel like a dork, and want to sell it like you do every motorcycle you've had". I replied, "Is it that I'd feel like a dork, or that you think I'd look like a dork?". She says, "Yes. Both".

I'll lower it to da ground, install twice-pipes, paint it candy-apple red... it'll be cooool, I know it.

and the only thing that is not up to par for a cruiser is the limited range.
One could install quite a reserve tank in that storage hole underneath the seat. Iron butt on a Burgman, anyone?

Don't forget a couple dozen mirrors ala Vespa. Ever since I read it could carry a big block Chev intake under the seat, I've seen it in a different light. Not a real bright light, mind you, but different.

I figured everyone knew what I meant, I've posted enough pics lately to eat up half the bandwidth in this joint, thought I'd cut some slack.

My Harley riding co-worker says: "Riding a scooter is like sleeping with your sister: A lotta fun, but you wouldn't want your friends to see you."

My 70 year old father rides a Burgman 650. He loves it. He kept up with me just fine between Tucson and Minneapolis this past May.

There's nothing light about the bike, it only weights 20lbs. less than an FJR. I've put a lot of hours on his and am VERY impressed with it performance.

I've even surprised a couple of young sportbikers with it.

tripletango .... That's feakin' cool !!!
Not sure which engine this has in it. Be nice if it had had the 900cc v twin.

OK found it, it has the 900 in it. Check out the rest of the pics.

OH SO GAY!
Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Hey, there's a market, I get it. What I don't understand is why they don't offer the powerplant/transmission in a more "traditional" package. They could do it old school offering a cruiser, sport bike and standard model all using the same power plant and sharing other components like brakes, controls etc.

I just hate those scooters. My kids don't even like them. Vespas? oh they like those. But the "sport" scooters? no way. They want a real bike look with the scooters ease of use.

I just don't get it.

I think your observations are right for the great majority of US riders out there now. These models are not aimed at this market.

The direction the manufacturers are going is to open markets to new riders. This is why these new bikes are much more user friendly. Not sure that rates them as gay!

Right now motorcycle sales are stagnant and they are looking for growth.

If you go anywhere else in the world you will find that it is the scooter, moped and small bike that populate the 2 wheel vehicle scene with the traditional bike as in FJR Harley BMW etc a distant second. The manufacturers are looking to expand on that market as well, where a scooter rider is looking for more power for touring etc.

In the rest of the world most 2 wheelers are between 50 and 150cc. The biggest bikes people else where buy are generally around 600cc. It is only in the US where relatively gargantuan engines exist and actually sell in quantities equivalent to scooters elsewhere. (Piaggio the second biggest 2 wheel maufacturer in the world after Honda made it's money with scooters)

That being said I love blowing off HDs on my B650 on some local trip. These bikes are quite quick! A 900cc version would be double fun as you could dust off 99.9% of all cruisers out there. (the .1 is the Triumph Rocket 111)

I have done TX FL on the Burgy but prefer the magic carpet for long trips, my FJR.
