Remember that the rest of the world has a "tiered" motorcycle license system. IIRC, one must work one's way up the class/size to get to the larger bikes. Plus, with the cost of cars and gasoline, it makes sense for the younger set to start with a 2-wheeled conveyance and scooters are easier to drive and park.
It will be interesting to see what the new "report" that will be conducted by the DOT comes up with concerning accident statistics, etc. I wonder if the U.S. will adopt some of the legislation/requirements that our Euro brethren have now...all to put us in line with the international guidelines, of course.
I live just South of a college campus and I'm starting to see a lot of larger cc scooters during commute times and around town. It may well be a burgeoning market in the U.S., and not one to be sneezed at. Heck, if it opens people's eyes to the wonder of 2-wheel travel, that's better for all of us. If it makes parents and grandparents more aware of 2-wheeled vehicles because the kiddos are riding scotters, that makes it better for all of us.
Seems like a win/win situation to me. Plus, I ainta gittin' eny yunger, em eyed look at wun uv them thangs fer gittin' 'round town. The Bergster is an attractive option.
