The header wrap simply further insulates the pipes. Benefits are 2-fold: (1) keep residual head off your legs, and (2) keep exhaust gases hotter to that the air is less dense and therefore flows better.

Just got under my bike and noticed the same touchdown on both sides. I don't ever recall feeling a touchdown, and my peg feelers are clean.

Anyone hear from Dale?

Mine touched down on both sides exactly as the pictures above that Highlander posted. And YES, my peg feelers have never been on the ground!
If I was a terribly aggressive rider, I could understand, but having the pipes hit before the peg feelers just doesn't seem right. No major damage, just some scrapes as in highlanders touchdown.

That's a pic of the hooligan Fairlainer's pipe not mine ! :D
Ummm now i am a hooligan i will remember that Dave.

Yes i did manage to touch the pipe down but the pegs were down at the same time, i replaced the rear shock with a Penske and no more touchy.

I will say that when it touched i was turning hard right and hit a pot hole.

all is well now though.

let me know what Dale says.

Richard (the Hooligan)
