So I've been lurking here for a couple months doing research 'n generally waiting patiently.

Early last Dec I went into my local dealer to have a look at the FJR. None in stock, talked to the sales guy for a bit, walked out with a brochure and was told they should have one on the floor sometime in Jan. Well I'm out running errands today and decide to stop in for a peek - fully expecting to NOT see the FJR on the floor.

Crap. Right at the front of the row of bikes, a beautiful new black 08. I shoulda turned and ran right then. Salesman see's me, remembers my face, or maybe it was the drool on the floor and the paint inside my pants, and comes over. Blah blah "Hop on" he says. Fack! I'm done for :dribble: .

Long story short, $1500 rebate (off the bottom) until the end of March which puts it around $17.4. I did manage to get out of there, sticky pants and all, without signing my life away but it was TOUGH. The decision has been made though, I will be back in there before the end of March to lock in the rebate and put a deposit down on it.

Now I've got two bikes to sell pronto!

Congrats. You're now an FJR junkie!

I don't know where you are, but you might want to check with D&H Cycles in Cullman, Alabama. LOTS of us have bought bikes from them and simply ridden them home. Pricing is always tremendous, delivery is great, and they're wonderful people to deal with. They'll pick you up at the Birmingham airport and your FJR will be ready for its first adventure homeward.

No, I have no financial interest in D&H. They just have a terrific rep and you can probably save a ton.

17.4 seems like a bunch of money for an FJR...I know of an 07 on a dealer floor that is much much less than that....I can even buy a new 08 for much less than that. I don't get it. They are taking off 1500 and you're still paying over 17 grand for one? You sure you are not buying a BMW?

Ditto on D&H I've heard it from several folks..

Or have you considered finding a used 07..Once and a while you find a deal where a not so expieranced rider buys one because they have more money than sense, and then find out that It SCARED the hell out of them  and now want to sell it before they wreck it .. with low miles. Then you wont get stuck with frieght, assembly, service charges, and god knows what else they stick on to the price. I looked the other day at a new 07..MSRP 13, and change.. The total at financing 16,800, thats a lot of fluff added on.

Wow 17.4 does seem high the dealer here in maine has an 08 and wants 13 plus tax so less then 14 out the door is fjr going for that much everywhere else .

I know in conn they wanted full retail but never heard of retail plus .Just my 2 cents .

What units is that 17.4 in? If it's US dollars, you done good to get out of there. That's *way* too much for an FJR in the states.

His other posts indicate he's from the Great White North...Ontario specifically! Thus, $17,400 for an MSRP of $19,000 Canadian dollars isn't too bad actually.

Yipes, guess I should have mentioned that. Sudbury specifically. $19,099 is full pin. Keep in mind this is just numbers off full pin. I believe the base figure was $18,700 - to which he added, "we can work from there, bring us in some competitive quotes and we can work with that number." Yami Canada has lowered the base sticker price down $900 from 07.

All that being said, their is a new 05 FJR in the Cycle Trader for $13.9. Their are other options as well.. buying one in Michigan (about 3 hour drive for me) and forgoing the warranty will save me HUGE bucks.

I still have 2 months to get things sorted out and shop some. It was just the first time I've seen the black 08 in the flesh - giggity!

I would ride the 05 before you decide to buy that over the newer model. I had an 05 and it was way too much heat for me. I ended up trading it in for an 06 and I have been happy ever since. Yamaha made a lot of changes in the 06 and newer models to reduce the heat coming off the engine. Any FJR is great bike, but if you are not wanting to cook yourself, go for 06 or newer. <_<

Much thanks for the heads up. I know from this forum that the new model bikes are more desirable than the previous generation bikes. I was just using that for an example. I've got a couple months before the rebate expires so it gives me a bit of time to get stuff worked out. Funny enough, I was looking at a Kawi Versys as an alternative. Apples and oranges, but for a short range all rounder, thats a hell of a bike - especially for the 10G's difference in price. I can outfit it for under 10 with top box and side bags from Givi. Power to weight ratio is actually better than that of my Meanstreak. But once again I did some research on it and it seems they've been experiencing some frame rusting problems across the pond. Not acceptable, even on a cheap bike to me so it's gonna be the FJR.

Lusting for spring.

Oh ya, I walked out the dealer with the 08 brochure. Got a chance to look at it after dinner. I *swear* its missing a page or two. Very little description of the features (windsheild, venting, headlight adjustment etc..) It's got like a page of prose, 3 pages of WAY overpriced accessories and a spec page.

Selling the sizzle...

-Steve

The brochure I saw didn't have that much in it either. Yapped about the ABS, the new windshield, something else then went off on the AE for a bit.

Good like containing yourself till the March.

+1 About D&H Cycles. I just purchased a new 07' from a local dealer here in Nashville, TN. But before signing any papers, I called and spoke with Renaa (that's how she spells her name) with D&H about the purchase. Even though I didn't buy one of their bikes, she (they) gave very helpful advise as to the purchasing of mine. Another, thing to consider is the Y.E.S. plan (Yamaha's extended 48 month transferrable warranty). My dealer sells the plan for $750, whereas D&H sells the same plan for $389. My check was in the mail right after I bought mine.

That's what you get with Canadian pricing...................screwed!!!!! Even though the dollar is at par, the only products that were re-priced were BOOKS!!!!

There is at least a 6-7K difference on '08 and '07 models between countries (the MSRP on an '08 in Canada is 21K!!!).

I would strongly suggest you drive across the border and buy one. It will only cost you about $800 in GST and the RIV fee (there is NO duty), and about $500 to have it shipped to a location in NY state (or wherever else). There is probably a shop in NY state that will sell you one (Michigan would be closer from Sudbury).

The only issue is the Warranty. The shop that sells it to you will honor it..............Canada won't. It's a bit of a PITA but if you can save 6K or so, it's well worth the effort. Besides, importing the FJR into Canada is just a matter of paperwork!!! A few of us have done it and it's easy!!!!!!

Mattster (My FJR came from Georgia)

I wonder if the extended warranty when purchased in the states is honoured for us poor frostbacks?

I'm sure I can get them down under 17 when it comes down to it. Still, thats a lot of change.
