Hi guys and gals. It's raining gently in the Yakima Valley (not that that stops me from riding) so I decided to change my oil, filter and plugs today. Just hangin in the garage, some tunes playin on the stereo, just me , her and some tools. I don't even have to be ridin her to enjoy her. Just being in her presense makes me well up with pride and satisfaction. No other machine has givin me so much fulfillment. Just wondering if anybody else feels this way about their FJR?

Hi Geezer2,

I sheepishly admit to having to go into the garage just to look at her before going to bed at night. My excuse is this is my very first bike, and I've only been riding for 4 months. I figure it must be the passion of the newly converted.

I know exactly how you feel. I have a 06 AE and in Edmonton alberta and it being the start of november (i might get a ride in tomorrow) I will be parking it soon. Depression will set in soon after! You know my wife asked me why I like to ride this bike so much? I told her...It responds to my touch and never complains how hard or how fast I ride it! :p Glad I'm not the only one in love with a motorbike!!!!

Whew! Thanks guys, I was beginning to think that I was sick or something. Even turning wrenches on her is enjoyable. I've got a Salvation Army toy run tomorrow, I'm going, rain or shine, just for the fun of it. Love is a beautiful thing.

No man, you are not alone! Everytime I throw a leg over my bike I just Praise The Lord that it is really mine and I get to ride one more time. I have to admit to finding creative ways of doing things and going places that can only be done on the bike. Really, weird but, it is what it is! I'm Blessed!

Geezer2,

Some years ago I read a great essay by Peter Egan on the artform of motorcycles in the garage. Funny thing was I was sitting in my garage looking at my prized 1979 KZ1300 and old BMW R60 and 69/S air head BMWs. I fully get it.. I truly do.

I get it too!

We had our first major rain of the season today :yahoo: Only cheering because we need it!

So I spent the day one on one with my FJR doing some maintenance and cleaning. I like the Cherry Red so much I like to go downstairs and look at him longingly

I hope I get a dry day soon before my foot surgery so I can swing my leg over a last time for a few months.

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel. Drove economy cars and a few nice bikes and saved up from 1960 to 2007 so I could pay cash for a brand new FRJ and a new Chrysler 300c SRT8. Now at age 71 and ill I doubt that I will put my usual 36000 miles per year on the bike, but I sure do like to visit the car and the bike in the garage and just touch them!

Now just because we understand how you feel does not mean you're not sick.

I'm starting to get some of my farkles trickling in. Need to mount new air horn, next the Back off wig-wag goes in. While tooling around is kinda fun, what is particularly enjoyable is re-learning how to ride. Oh, forgot to mention, I went from a Honda Shadow 750 to this beast, so it's not even comparable aside from the tire count.

Whether you're ridin', renchin', or rinsin', enjoy every moment. Some day you might look back and think, "Damn, there just weren't enough of those moments."

My 32 yr old daughter and I did a breakfast run up Yarnell Hill to the Ranch House restaurant this morning. My 2005 FJR is lightly farkled but includes an Ohlins shock, Race Tech fork springs, Spencer's seat mod on both front and pillion saddles, Blaster horn mod, raised bars and Roadsmart tires. I have had the bike only 14 months and have over 15k miles on it.

Going up Yarnell Hill, it is 2 lane one direction, roughly 6 miles and excellent asphalt. The police stake out the hill because squids keep crashing and killing themselves on it. My daughter and I came upon 6 Harleys at the bottom of the hill. We stayed back until they set there running order and chose a lane. We then sailed on by, not going to much over the speed limit, with ease. The FJR is so stable and confidence inspiring that I was just grinning in my helmet. Coming down Yarnell is the original road. It is one lane, very twisty with either armco and a cliff on right hand turns or solid rock wall when turning left. Again, the FJR, as it is currently set up, was awesome to ride. The suspension and seat mods along with the tires gave so much feed back and comfort that I am riding quicker with more confidence than ever before. I am almost 60 yrs old so, please, do not confuse confidence with cocky. I have taken many classes and courses, most recently the Streetmasters Precision Cornering Clinic, to improve my riding ability. I am the local Race Director in the Phoenix area, but do not want to race.

I have had many bikes in my life. I ride every day as I don't own a car/truck. My wife has an SUV that we haul our mom's in. Having the suspension sorted, regardless of who's shock and or fork springs, makes all the difference in the world. I have only had my Spencer seats for a week but I can really tell the difference. In my opinion, getting these two items sorted would be, should be, your first priority. The rest is just gravy which makes an incredible bike even better. The farkles you choose make the bike yours. Yes, I love my bike.

Ride Safe,

Randy Stem

I am glad to see there are others that regard the FJR with awe and affection. I spent an my entire career involved in engineering development of industrial equipment. As a result I acquired a very healthy respect for how difficult it is to create a truly excellent product. The FJR in my view is as near perfect for it's intended application as current technology can produce -it is truly "state of the art". Every time I ride I marvel at how flawlessly it performs. This is my fifth year riding after retiring -the FJR is my third and probably last bike. (well maybe not my last FJR!)

You love this bike; I LOVE this bike! I have now owned mine for 5 days. What a great machine.

I wish someone would of talked me into buying one a couple of years ago.

Now I'm just praying for some sunshine!

Here's a pic with 1 mile on "Blackbeauty"

I'm not an engineer...or even close. Got some mechanical skill and a good eye for figuring things out (got that from my dad), but I gotta agree with you, the FJR in all it's splendor is indeed a mechanical marvel. Long live the FJR!!!!

:)

I know exactly what you're talking about. I've owned and ridden bikes for 40 years and loved them all (except for one). But my '04 FJR is really special. I've owned it for over a year now and I can't stand to be away from her.

Be careful out there.

I hadn't ridden mine in several days - since Saturday, which is rare for me. I had been on the g/f's BMW F650GS the last couple days which I enjoy for around town. Light and nimble and great torque. Well, I took my dirty ol whore 04 FJR out today for a short ride to get some lunch. Even though it's well worn with 158,000 on the clock, and still showing most of the NAFO crash damage, it felt great to get back on and I enjoyed the short ride thoroughly. God I love this bike! Even though I lust after a couple other bikes to add to the garage, they would be secondary. I will have an FJR in my garage for a looong time to come.
