Biker's survival in Dolphin crash credited to helmet

A 21-year-old man survived an accident Saturday morning that catapulted him from his motorcycle and landed him on the right shoulder of State Road 836, the Dolphin Expressway, police said.

''It was really lucky for him that he was wearing his helmet,'' said Lt. Donna Ganz of the Florida Highway Patrol. ``I don't think he would be alive.''

The man, whose name has not been released by police, was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the right shoulder of the highway, Ganz said.

The man suffered broken bones, bruises and scrapes, and was listed in stable condition at the Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, authorities said.

Witnesses told police he was traveling westbound at more than 100 mph on his red and gray Kawasaki when he tried to switch lanes and hit the front wheel of a dump truck and then bounced against another vehicle. That's when he flew off the motorcycle.

The man was charged with improper passing on a motorcycle between two vehicles. Ganz said the man had a suspended license and no motorcycle endorsement.

The accident left the road covered with debris, including fragments of the truck tire and motorcycle gas tank.

I am sure Miami if not everywhere has the same idiots as we do here in Washington DC Metro area. I was just coming home from the "Outlaw day" on the shore and saw some stupid guys weaving from behind me. Once the first guy caught up to my area of traffic. I saw that his feet were on the back pegs. I knew EXACTLY what he was about to do and then there it was. He popped a wheely at about 60 MPH. Down the beltway he goes still riding it.

Now we all have the same people of the roads. Cars do not pay attention to our bikes and they cut us off ALL THE TIME. That is all he needed just then, to be cut off. And his helmet would have been doing a real life crash test. I don't like to see riders go down or hurt. But sometimes they are just asking for it.

OK, so I weave back and forth sometimes when I'm bored out of my mind or maybe I want to clean off my tires from some **** I just ran over or through.

And I happen to put my feet on the pillion pegs too, I switch back and forth to stretch. Does that make me a Squid?

If you catch me ridding a wheelie down the interstate on the FeeJeer, I'll give you $100,000.

I hope that isn't the candy bar your talking about.

I know it can be done however I am not inclined to raise that wheel up. And no it doesn't matter that you hang out on the pax pillon. Just don't decide to pull up a little while given it some gas. Personally the throttle is still a little jerky to even think about it.
