Many here followed my reports of training my daughter to ride which started in 2008. Based on some good advice I got here I lowered the FJR and then took some advanced riding instruction and track days in 2009 with my daughter that turned out to be great fun and extremely valuable training. Last August I reported on our trip out to Yellowstone with her on my FJR and me on GOld WIng with younger daughter.

Well, my well laid plans for a riding buddy went away when daughter decided to enlist in USMC. she left in June this year and just graduated this past weekend. Graduation is very impressive and we're quite proud of her but it'll still be a while (if ever) before this dad gets comfortable with the idea that his daughter might be going in harms way to satisfy some politicial objective.

Hopefully we'll still get to do cross country rides in the next 5 years by planning it for some time when she's home on leave.

Hoooo-RAH!!!

Most excellent! A HUGE congrats to your daughter! One hell of an accomplishment - you should be very proud. That there is one good looking marine!

What MOS is she heading into?

MP. she has 4 weeks of "MCT" (Military Combat Training) which starts in about 2 weeks followed by 3 months of MP school.

I hoping to make a bike trip to visit her next summer assuming she gets stationed somewhere in the USA.

Congatulations to your daughter on a monumental accomplishment! She certainly doesn't look any worse for the wear. Where did she do her time?

Semper Fi and congratulations! USMC bootcamp is a huge milestone! On which side of the country did she become a Marine?

Bootcamp was...well bootcamp, but I found the training school afterwards to be quite enjoyable (6013 Aircraft Mechanic, A-6, EA-6). No MCT in the '80's. She'll have fun. :D

Parris Island. Next is Camp Lejune for combat training and then about 3 months at USMC base in missouri.

Unless things have changed, all female Marines go to Parris Island for boot camp.

Congrats and Semper Fi!! I have fond memories of that vaction resort called Parris Island! ^_^
Congratulations to your daughter! Bootcamp is a huge accomplishment and "smooths the way" for what follows.

I have an older brother that was a Vietnam marine, and a nephew that was a Fallujah marine; I was navy like my father. I also served with the Seabees so interacted with USMC types quite a bit over the yrs.

I just went by the Parris Island resort exit on I95 last night...........
