Kind of an Andy Warhol of music type. His work may be appreciated more after his passing than during his lifetime.

I was -- and am -- a fan. Sail numbers on my sailing dinghy were TVC15.

RIP Aladdin Sane.

His stone should read..."the pompatus of love"..

never bought his stuff...I lean more toward ZZ Top, Seger etc. but he did some cool stuff..

Me too... he was such an amazing artist and could pull of so many "rebirths" unlike any other performer I've seen... my daughter first saw him in "Labyrinth" when she was a teenager and told me she thought he was "The ****"... high praise from a teenager!

I've been listening to his new album today... kind of eerie as some of the songs focus on death and rebirth... it's like he knew the end was near. He touched a lot of our lives... a friend of mine said, "It's weird when the death of someone you never even met leaves such a profound emotional imprint."

Maybe in America, but in Europe he has been a major influence for decades. When I was over there in the early eighties there were dozens of bands in the charts that were obviously influenced by Bowie.I got a chance to see him perform live in Rotterdam in '83,he definitely knew how to put on a powerful stage show...both musically and visually!

Another one of the greats is gone.Rest in Peace and thanks.

A huge influence on my musical leanings from my teenage years with Major Tom. So sudden, can hardly believe it. Never saw him live but feel kinda proud that I used to live near his home ground and went to the same school.

RIP Dave, you were one of a kind.

In regards to Knifemaker's post, I was never much of a fan of Bowie's until I watched that duet on TV. Had a much greater appreciation for his talent afterwards. His music is part of my mix now when I ride.

He was different, pushed the boundaries of "normal", showed everyone you could be what you wanted to be. Of course we appreciate that now better than we did then. RIP.
