From this month's issue of Cycle World..

ABS braking; traction control; cruise control; a ride-by-wire throttle system; a large (6.9-gallon) gas tank; a windshield electrically adjustable over a 6½-inch range; 31-liter detachable saddlebags with an optional 55-liter top trunk that includes a 12-volt power port; heated seats and grips; an adjustable-height rider seat; provisions for mounting an optional GPS receiver; a centerstand; and electronically adjustable headlights. When you combine the SE's traction control with its sporty 17-inch wheels and tires and a claimed wet weight of 662 pounds, it implies that this machine has backroad capabilities in its DNA as well as open-road touring. That perception is further reinforced by the SE's WP suspension, which is electronically adjustable for rebound damping up front, and for preload and rebound at the rear using a control switch on the left handlebar. Much like the BMW's system, the SE's suspension has settings for both load (one-up, one-up plus luggage, two-up) and type of riding (sport, normal, comfort). Standard equipment also includes a tire-pressure monitoring system and a powerful, MP3/iPod/iPhone-compatible, Bluetooth-enabled sound system.
The Trophy SE will be available in either Lunar Silver or Pacific Blue paint schemes.
Gotta say, this one is very intriguing..

I'm thinking that for a guy on a limited budget, that doesn't go very fast and continually has mechanical problems, this should be your next bike!

+1, Gunny; Thanks for the excellent Words of Wisdom Dr. Rich, Don Carver owning a Triumph SE would be like giving a harmonica to a goldfish. dcarver can usually feck up a bowling ball in under five minutes, just imagine what he would possibly do to that poor Trumpet!

My son got a new Triumph Speed Triple earlier this year, and loves it. He's up to 10,000 trouble-free miles so far.

Nearest dealer to you looks to be Santa Maria -- is that too far to be practical?

Darn it Dr. Rich, I forgot to stop by Creston for 'dollar dog Thursday'... Arrgh. So much for dinner on my budget!

Ouch, that hurts DonnieBoy! We could have contests to see who's water pump or final drive last the longest?

Agree it's borderline... but do-able. Will wait until more is known, but good golly miss molly by the spec sheet the bike is a winner!

Yeah... and they're taking a huge leap with those unique color schemes...

Honestly, it doesn't look much different than many of the touring bikes out there...

Did I hear "sound system?" Good grief. What's it cost anyway? Seriously now, are ya really thinking about pulling the trigger, or ya just pulling some legs here?

Well, by looks alone, I guess your statement is factual. But a 3 cylinder (narrower) with all the techie stuff Yamaha should be doing for the fjr is hard to ignore. Lighter weight too. And for colors? I've given up on any decent colors outside of Harley Davidson. Yep, I said, Harley Davidson has the best colors and paint of any bike currently on the market. My 1991 Ultra paint is still drop-dead-gorgeous.

Gary - I put a 'sound system' on the FJR too. Let's see, Zumo 550, StarComm, expensive and cheap wiring (helmet headset, music cable, radar cable, remote volume cable / potentiometer, push to talk.. Not to mention the CCS 100 Audiovox cruise control...

Price, not known yet. And perhaps that WILL be the deciding factor - I'm just saying that on paper, this bike has me more intrigued than the FJR did based upon experience with an FJ during the 80's.

To set the record straight - KrZy8 will ALWAYS be in the stable if for one reason and my prime goal.

I want to have 1 million miles on bikes I *currently* own.

(I've already passed 1 million through the years, now to the next level!)

Lighter weight? You smoking your home grown cannibas again?

And the biggie.............. COST?????

Looks interesting to me too, but don't think I could get rid of the Yamaha reliability I have enjoyed all these years.

Radio, what the hell is that mess in the picture?

SkooterG, yeah, geesh, weight and cost. But if you outfit the fjr with all the stuff the SE has I bet the weight is pretty close to even?

Bug, yeah, maybe those colors get you laid, but I prefer wimmens not BeemerDon's....

Guess it's a matter of wait-and-see...
