DAY 5 - Porterville to Home
We both slept well that night and had a surprisingly good breakfast at the hotel (included) and then loaded up our stuff to take out to pack up... a couple of other riders walked by and said, you got all that stuff onto two bikes?!? What can I say... we are masters at packing (never mind the banana)...
We made our way east to Coalinga and along 198...
This green won't last for long...
Back up 25, our picnic spot for lunch...
Home is beckoning...
One man's weeds are another bird's castle...
Erin's dog, Tribbles, stayed at my house with my pup, Bart, so they could keep each other company... Erin dropped her bike off and came back to get her four-legged friend... who was VERY happy to see her mistress (yes, Erin is under there somewhere!)... so it was a happy ending (so to speak).
I wiped down the Spyder which was covered in bugs and grime, unpacked my bags, sat with the aminals a bit, and reflected on the past few days... it was my longest trip yet since, well, you know... longest single day ride (340 miles), longest number of days (5), and longest overall mileage in one trip (1,415 miles). I'm getting more comfortable on the Spyder so it's becoming more fun and less work. I reflected on friends present and those gone... how lucky and blessed I am to have or have had those people in my life... and remembering to cherish every moment that I can with them because we just never know what the future may hold.
I close with a quote to remind you all that while we are out traveling life's roads and enjoying the adventures we experience along the way, no matter where you are or who you're with, home is where your heart is... and that goes with you everywhere.
"I learned that, if I ever go looking for my hearts desire again... I shouldn't look any further than my own back yard. Because if it isn't there, I never really lost it to begin with."
- Dorothy
Wishing you all your heart's desires.
