My bike was 300 miles away when I financed it. The band contacted the owner and got the wiring instructions. I flew out looked at it said ok and jumped on and road home. The money actually transferred a couple days later. The bank was the intermediary and the seller was ok with that. You can make this happen. I bought my 06 for $6000 last November. That included new tires, G2, PCIII and Cal Sci wind screen on a bike that had about 2000 miles on it. By the way I paid off the note on Friday. She is all mine now.

Why does that matter? Get all the info on the bike as well as seller info and head over there with a cashiers check from your bank. If the bike isn't as described, hold on to the check and go back home. My credit union has something called a ready loan check. You determine how much you want to finance and the check will be limited to that amount but can be written for a lower amount. It is good for 90 days giving you time to find the right deal.

I'll call them when I can and ask if that's a possibility, but last time I was financing a vehicle from them, that wasn't an option. They had to have the title in hand before they'd fork over the cash. If they'll accept those terms (I haven't missed a payment on the Vee afterall) that will make my life easier, as it opens me up to fly-and-ride possibilities.

Price on both is too high. Yes, the 05 can be a ticker, but at 25k miles, if it ain't one yet it ain't going to be. Also, on the 05, a valve check is due is 2,000 miles. that can be a pricey maintenance procedure to have properly done at a dealer.

While a warranty can be desirable, only having a year of warranty left on an 08 with only 15k miles isn't much. The odds of anything going wrong in the next year on a low mile FJR are slim to none. Different story for a higher mileage FJR or one that has lots of warranty left and will be ridden LOTs. And can help re-sale value.
Maybe off topic a hair, maybe not, but I thought nothing after '04 ticked. I guess I'm wrong?
Yes, once again you're wrong :p . Do you just spew things that you guess are right? I know people with 05s that have been rebuilt by Yamaha because they were oil burning tickers. It can and has happened to bike after the 25k mile mark.

If the 2500 bucks isn't a huge factor I say go with the 08, having owned both gens...

Hey Carlson, at least I'm willing to admit I'm wrong on this deal. Not so much on the other. Haha...

He's a cop. He doesn't need to be able to use spelling and grammar. He just has to be able to beat people who don't deserve it. :)

As for tickers after 25k miles, I believe those are pretty rare.

VStrom is a great bike but you won't miss messing with that chain.

I've ridden an ST1300, great bike with a minivan-esque instrument panel. If you want something sportier definitely hold out for an FJR deal.

Let me just say that two of these three FJR Forum individuals can spell, one cannot! Photo was cropped for security reasons!

+1 The ST1300 is fantastic, I love mine and the only thing I would trade it for is Dad's FJR. We swap bikes from time to time, the FJR is supposed to be about 1/2 second faster through the 1/4 mile but it feels like it is faster than that. This is a topic that could be and has been beaten to death, but you can't go wrong with the ST or the FJR. If it matters to you nobody stops me to talk about my ST, but Dad almost never fuels up without someone complimenting his bike.

Lumens,

Talk to this person in Oklahoma.

https://tulsa.craigsl...2991118850.html

That is a helluva deal - no details though.
Just an FYI, I called twice and emailed once about this FJR. If it was perfect I had every intention of driving up there this weekend to pick it up. Never received any kind of response so I'm guessing it's sold.

Oh well, I guess I really didn't need to have 2 FJR's anyway.
