Sure glad to hear your injuries were not worse. Hopefully, you can put your FJR back in ship shape. :)

Sorry for the encounter, happy for the no bodily-injury outcome, thankful for the windshield screw reminder. I've had new plastic replacement screws sitting in the parts bin, but one needs to actually "install" them to do their job. Just put them in, thanks!

That is great to hear, Mr. CAJW.

Kaitsdad noticed how effective they were instantly, and I am very glad it helped persuade you to switch over. I am very happy something good has come of this :)

well deer are a constant issue on the road I live on, I pretty much expect them but so far they have been smart deer, and I'm always watchful. But once I get further away from home, I am less cautious in expecting them.

Glad you came out okay and the bike was in pretty good condition!

Ken

Glad you're OK and can write about the encounter Doug. Up in these parts I see forest rats almost daily and it seems like it's getting more prevalent during the day time hours.

Walking away is definitely a testament to ATGATT.

Came across this website today via a Lee Parks email. Although not a deer strike, a sobering reminder to always protect yourself...Rock The Gear

So yesterday I rode my bike for the first time ever in a t shirt. Was kind of easy justifying it (really hot) until I read your post. You see, I wear almost exactly the same gear as you - 1 piece roadcrafter, Shoei X-11, held steve, Sidi boots.

Sorry about your deer. Glad you're OK. Thanks for reminding me that it's stupid to ride in a t shirt.

So no venison for dinner? I don't know if they still make them but there should be some small deer alert whistles that stick on that suppose to keep them away, works like a dog whistle that only they can hear. they sell them at truckstops I believe.

Yeah, those work just about as good as wearing garlic around your neck.

Way to take one for the team Doug! Glad you came out unscathed.

Wear your battle scars proudly and get one of these for your saddlebag.

I am glad you came out of this ordeal without injury.

Thank you for posting this as we all have have a tendency to become complacent with our riding over time.

Your post definitely got my attention.

Thanks for the wake up call.

Thumbs up on ATGATT.

Yeah, I was gettin' antsy- he was running late, and I'm telling myself he's caught some traffic, stopped for gas, stopped for pie, met a hooker offering discounted afternoon rates, etc., yadda yadda yadda . . .

When he finally pulled into the driveway the scar on the left bag was pretty obvious. As I got closer the damage started to show, and I had a pretty good idea.

The bike's in amazingly good shape - scrapes, some hardware needed replacing, and his front stay is tweaked to the right. Some of the dash plastic no longer fits as well as it used to. I guess it's not really designed to give rides to rumninants. The stator cover has a missing bolt hole where the highway peg bracket bent back and the bolt snapped it. However - no leaks, so the case never lifted off the gasket. These things can really take some hits and shake it off.

And this is a huge testament to ATGATT - his boot and Stitch did their jobs. Doug told me the next day that he had no sore muscles, no bruises, etc. Not so much as a strawberry. He stayed with us for dinner and didn't start talking funny or crossing his eyes, so I figgerd he was fine to leave.

Overall a good outcome considering.

In the northern Rockies, deer have become a much more significant daytime hazard. With some 1,500 wolves in the region, they can put the run on deer, elk, moose, whatever, any time of day. I hit a muley doe with my Tacoma on I-15 last year at 2:15 in the afternoon. She came busting out of the timber at full speed. I suspect a wolf was giving chase. $6,000 damage and one very dead deer. On the bike? Maybe 50/50 chance of surviving. I am so grateful the FJR rider in this instance survived and is intact, even if the bike has some battle scars. Good on the ATGATT.

first, thanx for posting and relieved at the outcome

what a roller coaster of moi emotions (bipolar), first reading the dreaded thread title

and then reading the first post

gotta consider this one a win, and the adreline high of dodging a really big bullet during my reading

after the relief of you being ok, then in total the bike also is ok

appreciate the post and the good advise that is real world important to take seriously

so glad for you,

Mike
