OK I've reviewed the crash reports of other members. A search didn't turn up any info on use.

You may have seen the report from Modoc County, California transportation department regarding free trial distribution and results showing some evidence of reduced deer / vehicle collisions. There are other reports from the North East somewhat similar.

You may have seen other reports saying there's no evidence deer whistles work.

There's cheap stick on versions or electronic units. For the stick on style, you have to keep them covered (one rider told me use panty hose!) to keep bugs out. Dawn and dusk are most vulnerable times but can happen anytime. They aren't magic - i.e. slow down in dangerous areas and beware.

Finally the question: anybody installed them on an FJR and what's your experience been? Thanks.

There was a really long post on Deer Whistles recently. At the risk of being called a dumb ass by about 4000 members; I have the stick on kind and they seem to work for me. I have the cheap Wall-Mart ones ($5.00) mounted to the reflectors on both sides on my front forks. Deer seem to run away from me when they hear me approaching.

I wouldn't waste my money on the expensive electronic kind, but for $5.00 it can't hurt.

Remember if you see one deer there are more around ... slow down.

a free option i choose is prayer to a higher power of my understanding...

i always pray that vampires not attack me...

same prayer for 30 years...

no vampire attacks...

YMMV

Had a friend that hit Bambi right after installing the whistles on his HD. We allways gave him shit for putting them on backwards and turned them into deer calls. YMMV

I have them mounted to the bottom of the fairing, under the headlight. Hard to see unless your looking at the bike straight on. My wife had them on her SUV. Lost them at the car wash. Hit a deer the next day! I' am a believer.
