There's something very comforting, something very primal, something very soulful about a solo ride through the Desert Southwest. History - sure. Stark beauty - of course. Americana - always. Patriotism in the middle of nowhere - I've come to expect it. American ingenuity and massive engineering feats - stunning. Pimped-out Caddy bass boat trailer rigs, boasting 525 cubes - only in the Good Old U. S. of ******' A. baby! Daytime brings vast vistas of Mother Nature's best. Nighttime reveals an abundance of wildlife - the dodge 'em balls of motorcycling. Imagine nothing but the sound of the wind and the only man-made thing for miles is the road and some barbed wire fencing here and there. I'm fortunate to be who and where I am right now and forgive me a moment of new age, feel good, sharing type ****, but damn... I love this sport passion of ours.

I was wondering where you disappeared to.

Great pics and good tunes. Its incredible how different the riding is there compared to the east. I can't think of a straight road, like some of those in your pics, anywhere within a 10 state radius of here....not to mention the traffic. Give me another couple of years and I'm going to dump the business and take a nice looooooooong ride out west to experience firsthand.

Very nice TWN,

Got to get down that way sometime. Few people realize, maybe have forgotten, what its taken to tame this country. Even fewer still don't realize the vastness of it all.

Thanks

Bill

I've been ridin' utility quads with winches for several years all over AZ (street legal) & some in Co & UT. I have an 800 FI one now. Nothing better than getting way out there and enjoying the wilderness....

I finally got a chance to watch this one...nice pics. Looks like a great ride. Gotta love the Desert in the "Winter". :D

I did the 3 flags classic last year, Scottsdale to Tijuana to Calgary Alberta and back in 10 days including overnight in Calgary. Saw some beautiful country especially the snake river in N.Idaho.

Enjoyed these photos as well as the videos you have on YouTube. Got to get out of the southeast and ride the western states someday.

That's exactly why I'm not taking the mapquest route to WFO next year. I wanna see the SW! Cool tune too. Nicely done TWN!

That is some great music & great pics, also. Thanks for sharing... I REALLY need to get out in the part of the great ol' US.

Music trivia: This version of "Ghost Riders In The Sky" was performed by "The Outlaws". Does anyone know who wrote the original lyrics?

Nope, that version is performed by the Marshall Tucker Band. Ripped it right off my very own CD. And the answer is: Stan Jones.

Well, I'll be doggoned... never experienced that tune by MTB. I stand corrected, then. Sounds very much like the Outlaws version, then. I remeber way back when in the days of playing "Quarters" with quarts of Gennessee Cream Ale... when I was a mere 16 years old, the Outlaws were my roomy's favorite band.

Regardless, it's a wonderful background for you pic montage.

And YAYYYY on the lyrics... we've got a winner!
