vectervp1 - Senor Arturo Montoya came up with a great location for a Ride to Eat Destination. Let's meet at Dolce Vita Gelato at Brown and Higley Roads in Mesa for Dessert in the Desert. Time: 6:00pm Date: Wednesday, October 29, 2008.

Hey Don,

I think I may have found a good spot to do a Ride to Eat sometime. Its in Mesa

so not a very exciting ride, but it could be one that a lot of people will

enjoy. Its a mom and pop owned Gelato and Cafe on Brown and Higley. They use

only fresh ingredients in their Gelato which they buy locally at fresh food

markets themselves. They have traditional flavors and some more unique flavors

such as chocolate cayenne. They're only open afternoons and evenings, but the

weather is turning so that this may be an excellent time to plan some sort of

Sunday RTE in the evening for some gelato. I talked to one of the owners about

having 10-20 motorcyclist over and she said that would be excellent. She was

even willing to open early or possibly stay open late if we gave her some

notice. She mentioned her husband used to ride, but hasn't gotten a license

since moving to the states from Italy, so he would love to have a bunch of bikes

in the parking lot to look at.

I had a taste of their dark chocolate and terimisu gelato when I met her and it

was very good stuff! I plan on doing a scouting run soon to see how the rest

of the place looks so I can give a good description to folks. I'll let you know

what I see.

Here is their info in case you decide to do your own 'scouting run' to them.

Hi Wolfhound, Just got a post from Brian and Melanie Boles that there is a really great Thai restaurant and a super fantastic Italian restaurant in the same shopping mall as Gelato Dolce Vita.

Thanks for posting this Don. Seems like I just keep getting busier and busier lately!

When I met the owner, she gave us a brief history of how they came to have this authentic Gelato stand in Mesa AZ. It turns out she decided to sell all of her belongings and moved to Italy with a few friends. She then met her husband and they opened business together (think it was a restaurant). They then decided to go to the Gelato University in Italy. They graduated from there and went to a few Gelato shops as apprentices and honed their skills. So what brought them to AZ? Well her mother lives in Mesa, so they decided to move down here.

This is truly authentic gourmet Gelato folks. I've only had a taste, but it was awesome stuff. I'm considering going down there this weekend to have another 'sample'... you know, for the good of the forum... I may also give them a heads up that a group of us will be down on Wednesday too.

Dammit that place looks yummy. I wish it were a little closer and I'd join you. But that's quite a round trip for dessert. Oh well. I need to get out there and join ya'll on one of these RTE's on a weekend or a night that I don't have to rush back in order to work the next morning. Really, I do.

Enjoy. And be sure to let us all know how that place turns out.

My Fellow Zonies: Have you had an eerie feeling that all's not well in our Grand Canyon State? Couldn't explain it until I received a call from Customs & Immigration and they alerted me that "Sin Trabajo" is once again in our presence! Pendejo!

"Sin Trabajo" is back in the states?

And AGAIN I question the abilities of Homeland Security. :glare:

Yeah Hal, it is official; Sir Crashalot is back among us. SkooterG, GSJane and I attended the Victory BMW Open House in Chandler, Arizona yesterday. Unbelievably, the BMW Demonstration Fleet allowed GregM to test ride their brand new 2009 BMW test bikes. As I saw him get on a $25K Beemer to take a ride, I made the sign of the cross! BMW Factory Outrider Employee said in heavily German accented English: "No worries, we will attach his wages if he crashes our bike." I happily then responded: "Dumbkopf, ihr haben nichts geld or ein kraft!" Krautie stopped smiling when that fact sunk into his brain!

I have the bike in getting new windshield power unit put in so I'll be staying over on the westside tonight. Should be picking it up tomorrow. Also had them replace the bag liners under warranty.

Lame excuse!

What happened to your windshield powe unit and bag liners?

During the LOE Rally near Moriarty I got on I-40 West & into the rain pretty heavily. Stopped at Clines Corner & when I left the windshield wouldn't go up as far as it should and would only went down once ! So the YES covered a net one & the bag liners had the strap pull out due to defect so news were ordered since they came with the bike - another YES replacement . . .

Driving cross town ain't what it use to be with all the new photo radar . . . .Need to get the early warning system going . .
