Hi folks,

I have a bunch of airline miles burning a hole in my pocket and want to get away somewhere in January or maybe February for a 3 or 4 day ride. Obviously weather is the primary issue but I will also need to be able to rent a bike....or rely on the kindness of strangers! :)

The southern US is obviously the place for me to go but where? FL, AL, TX, AZ, CA?

Thanks in advance,

gypsy

You had me worried for a second, don't head West towards Ontario it's f*cking freezing here, We have more snow so far in Ottawa than almost the entire winter and the rivers are starting to freeze ( The snow is a little exagerated but the snow mobiler's around here have a serious hard on due to the previous poor seasons we have had).

Chris

Have a look at this thread. Maybe you could join up. Dunno where to get a bike, though.
Thanks that sounds like not a bad idea. Have to look into the bike rental.

Chris I am sorry to hear about your plight. I have to go out and work int he garden this afternoon. Prepare it for winter...whenever it gets here....not that I am in a hurry!

Don't go to FL. No twisties, crazy traffic, too many stoplights....

CA would be the way to go. Probably won't be as warm as FL, but if your interested in renting a bike, that's the place to do it.

There's one in L.A. You can rent a GS1200A. I thought it was a fun bike to ride, although if your short........ Well let's just say, don't park on an off camber road. Those things are a lot taller than the FJR.

See, that's actually the safety feature. No showing off, better behavior.

When the burnouts, wheelies, stoppies, and donuts start, all hell breaks loose.

Yes I do have a hard time not doing hooligan acts like that. :D

There is a Daytona Bike Week in Jan/Feb?? .

Yes there are some secluded twisties in FL, right down the road is Ozello trail. The prob with Ozello is that there are too many cars that go 20 mph down the road :angry2: and it is a 2 laner going to the beach/boat dock.

Texas sounds interesting I have never been there. Only problem is I can only just flat foot my FJR now...I am afraid the FJRs are bigger in Texas!! :)

Gypsy, If you fly into Phoenix on February 14 you'd be welcome to borrow my Kawasaki KLR 650 and ride down to Bahia Kino, Sonora, Mexico with the Arizona FJR Forum. You can stay in my son Seth's room and you could fly back to Canada on February 19. The KLR only has 36 horsepower and a seat height of 34", but you only need one foot when you're stopped.

The regular Phoenix biker trash will be on this run: SkooterG, vectervp1 and other Zonie malcontents. You can go to Southwest under Regional Rides to see the details. Do you currently have a Canadian passport? We're riding with my home motorcycle club, BMWMOA Chartered Club #89, www.azbeemers.org/forum and many of our members are foreign nationals. Israelis, Mexicans, my fellow Irish and other Canadians; having a passport makes returning to the US easier!

We're still nailing down lodgings as our group is now over a dozen, I hope to post the final hotel announcements next week.
