PLEASE do not turn this into NEPRT. Answer only if you know.

It's been a while since the question was raised about differences between the Diablo Strada E-series and regular Strada rear.

Has anyone run both on the same bike and suspension setup?

If so, what was your mileage difference if any?

What were the noticeable handling differences if any?

Ask me in about 2500 miles. When I trashed my Strada E last weekend, Ken Wheeler put on a new Strada for me. On inspection, there is no "E" designator on this tire. I will let you know how it does. I do no 2 up riding and got 3500 good miles out of the "E" I had on it. When the "E" went bad, it did it quickly. The tire lost its contour and started showing belts w/in about 300 miles of the wear indicators becoming noticeable. When its going bad the ride deteriorates noticeably.

Diablo Strada

Diablo Strada "E"

The “E” is specified only for BMW, all other non-listed specifications are the same between the “E” and non “E” tires.

I have the non “E” tire on my FJR, it currently has ~8k miles on it and I’m not to the wear bars yet. This mileage way exceeds the ME-4s & ME-6s that have previously been used. When new, the Stradas turned and leaned much like the ME-6s (no, I didn’t get killed by using the ME-6s ;) ). Even though there is a fair amount of tread left, turn-in has become much heaver, stability when leaned isn’t as good and high-speed stability isn’t as good. I may ditch these tires before I hit the wear bars, still TBD after the weather becomes rideable again. I have no plans to run the "E" on my FJR.

Thanks Ion,

The extra tread depth of the non-E rear is what I'm interested in. In case you haven't noticed yet, it looks like the stats have been "altered" on the new pirellidiablo.com site. Links to the stats are still there, but things like tread depth etc. have been removed from the pages.

At least I could not locate that info anymore.

For what it's worth, I bought both an 'E' Strada and a regular Strada. The 'E' is noticibly stiffer. You could mix them up, close your eyes, and push down on both tires, one with each hand. You can pick the 'E' version every time. Much less flex, which I take to be a stiffer sidewall. More suitable for a fat girl like the FJR, I'm thinking. I'm still finishing up my Avons, but will go to the Diablos next month.

My first strada was the non E. Only got 100 miles on it before taking a nail. Decided to put on a new E before WFO, since then 4000 miles and almost gone. Will probably put the other back on when I change tires next month. luv the tire more than the original set. jr

Curious as well. Have a set of Stradas lying in wait in the shed. Love the Avons but the rear is wearing and getting a bit heavy on turn-in.

John.

Not quite sure what documentation YOU'RE reading, but the 'E' spec Strada rear is specific to the Yamaha FJR:

https://www.us.pirelli.com/en_US/browser/at...LLI_FULL_07.pdf

The ""E" is specified for the '04 through '07 FJRs.

In the Strada lineup on page 4 of the document, it says: ""E" Spec for Yamaha FJR1300, and various BMWs", without mentioning WHAT BMWs there. But a search of the fitment guide shows it as the recommended tire for the K1200GT, R1200 RT and ST and the F800ST.

I have a set on my bike, installed about 4000 miles ago - probably about 2/3 worn. Love 'em.

I can easily attest to the extra stiff sidewalls of the E-series. I've seen it choke semi-automatic changers, and that rear is without a doubt the toughest tire to mount I ever encountered. But damn do I love 'em!

Oooops! Bet I just screwed up my own thread and sent it straight to NEPRT.

:(

Jeff,

I have had both on for there respective life span which was 4300 mile for each one. They both showed cords when I changed them. The E is way stiff and very hard for even electric tire changers, so if you change them yourself you might want to consider this.

Just so you know I usually only get about 4000 to 5000 miles out of any rear I have run.

Really liked the Strata's, but am now trying Avon's to see if I get 6000 miles out of a rear....
