Last years at EOM 2007, my Sony digital camera died. It was in my tank bag. I've carried it there before with no problems. I didn't feel like spending the $200 on old replacement or a repair, so I purchased a Pentax DSLR instead. I should have bought it earlier. I don't feel like losing another camera so wondered if the tank bag is what killed my other camera. Any ideas?

I carry my Nikon D70 in my tank bag all the time and don't have any issues.

And I have carried the better Canon 10D in mine and have not experienced any issues. I suggest an autopsy. The cause of death was something else. Foul play cannot be eliminated at this time.

In a round about way your tankbag may have killed your camera. I doubt the magnets in the tank bag would do much more than possibly erase your data card (but even then I highly doubt it), but there is another factor to consider with tankbags. That would be high frequency vibrations. You know, the same kind that make your hands go numb after riding for a few hours. There is a chance that if you didn't have the camera in a padded case, that something inside of it could have shaken loose, or a solder joint could have broken. Its hard to say for certain though because I've carried my digital cameras in my tankbag for over 40k and never had a problem with them.

+1 !!!

If any corner of your camera was against the tank it wouldn't be surprising at all.

Some people swear by Sony and some swear at them. The Gummint agency I work for has sworn off the brand. They have great features and take great photos, but just break too fast.
