Did Yamaha know beforehand that Honda was going to mess up the VFR?

IMO the latest FZ-6* had exactly the wrong engine for a middleweight sport street bike. I think this bike'll fill the huge hole that the VFR left when Honda screwed it up in '02 with the new model. There's hope, anyway.

* Not the new more budgety FZ-6R, I know nothing of that bike.

the new VFR is one of the butt fugliest bikes I have ever laid eyes on.

+1, 2, or 3...

And I've always liked Hondas... :dntknw:
There are several dozen moto-journalists that felt the same way until they saw it in person...

Not likely we're going to see the FZ8 in the US anytime soon. Europe gets it first.

Well, so far it looks like they decided to ride along on the screwup parade. Pretty butt-ugly from what I can tell, just like the VFR.

naked bikes are an acquired taste. me likely

Only see the head light. Where's the rest of it?

Too bad to see the FZ6 go away. I bought one a few years back, great bike for riding canyon roads.

If it's an 800cc liquid cooled V Twin or V4 with adjustable suspension and great brakes, plus a reasonable curb weight, I think it'll look good in the garage next to my FJR!

Well yeah, I've both generations of the naked SV-650, but I don't like the all-lines-and-angles stealth fighter look. I guess I'll reserve judgment until Yamaha shows us the rest.

To answer the question posed in the thread title:

Of course Yamaha knew that Honda was going to mess up the VFR!

It happened back in 2002!! :p

They still have the FZ-6R, which at the time I thought was a ridiculous addition to the FZ-6.

I can't expect it to be anything but an inline-4. If the guys stick to it in GP when even Suzuki built a V-4, then I don't expect a V-anything.

I think I addressed that in my original post. :p
