It is hard typing but figured I would post some pics.

It happened Saturday. Basically washed my front end on a turn grabbing too much brake and high sided landing on my shoulder.

This was on one of those Chinee wonderbikes, right? A Husky would have held the turn......... :D

Can't read the X-ray...did you crack something?

Sure hope not. Get well soon bro!

Actually along those lines advances aren't always better. My 20 year old yz I never felt unconfident in the turns, this "new" bike is completely opposite.

On thumpertalk one of their big subjects on the wr is the front washing out.

Mine was using the brake because I was going down hill and going too fast but if I had been more confident in its turning I may not have tried to slow down so much...

Can't read it because it doesn't show up well or you don't know what you are looking at?

I broke my collar bone and it is sitting under the broken piece. Also a piece is floating.

I also broke the 4th rib.

Wow sparky! Sorry to see that. Ouch! Don't play so hard, k!
Thanks. I had been riding for about 6 hours and was pretty tired. Falling on a dirt bike happens almost everytime I get on one. This is the first broken bone from one though.

I have broken this collorbone 4 times now...

****, that's a nasty break... I'm assuming surgery, wire and stuff to reassemble? Good luck on the healing process.

Ouch! sorry dude! hope you get better soon. I did the same thing but I was a teenager when I broke mine (collarbone) riding dirt. What a pain in the neck that was  don't touch it! damn it hurts. My right collarbone sticks out further than my left, but hey, if you got to break a bone, I'd pick that one!

Actually the collorbone is very rarely fixed with surgery. I have had it broken 3 times before and they don't even try and set the bone. Apparently the floating piece with just become part of the big healing mass all on their own.

My doctor said sometimes high impact breaks such as mine may sometimes not heal on their own but it was rare. I go back in 3 weeks.

On thumpertalk.com they have a health section with a orthopaedic doctor that is very well respected. He actually even recommends against surgery becasuse if not done correctly can be worse.

The added rib break makes sitting up harder. Just sucks that I will be out for at least 8 weeks and when I do get back I will definitely be taking it slower...

"Not so Sparky", sorry to hear about you bashing yourself. Could have been worse, eh? Sucks though. Looks nasty on you. Ouch.

So how long you think you'll be down for the count this time around? 8 Weeks? Sheesh, I'd be 6 months with something like that. Hurts just thinking about it.

Hope you heel well, and fast!

The guy who I found to work on my bike when it's too complicated for me moves like he's a long-time dirt racer. I'd recommend backpacking as a pastime, yer gettin' too old for ground-diving. Get well (and smart) soon!

Ouch! I broke my left on a bicycle. Knock wood no ribs yet. I feel for ya. You might want to slow down just a tad in the dirt. Take your thrills in spurts instead of a cloud of dust. Heal fast. TJ

Not so what? I am missing something, are you commenting on the name Sparky?

Thanks for everyone's well wishes.

I am no stranger to broken bones, martial arts has broken a few, football, horses.

Yeah, play on "Sparky", as in full of light and energy.... would have been better if your handle was "Perky". It was lame, I know it, my bad. Sorry you got bashed up.

My old bud "sparky" from New Jersy came from a whole nuther source. He use to get stoned and see sparks in the bong--hence "sparky" or "spark" for short :drag: --I think he still sees sparks--if I had to guess, haven't seen ole spark in about 15 years.

And the good news is that you didn't break any joints, and you didn't break anything close to the end of the bone (furthest from center) so you'll heal faster than I did when I crushed the very end of my collar bone into 24 pieces. They all grew back together and are a huge lump of calcium now.

I learned this the hard way (asking the Ortho guy while he's treating you):

When you break a bone, there are tissue filaments that can stretch a very long distance between the pieces of broken bone. During healing, the bone will heal anywhere those filaments are, and therefore bones that don't look in line will grow back together. Having more bone than you used to can be a problem, as in my case the tendons operating the deltoid muscle are pushed out of place by my collar bone break, and the bursa also have problems when I rotate overhead repeatedly because the normal joint isn't there/is in the wrong place.

Sometimes I just type too much.

I hope you get better soon Sparky! 6 weeks prognosis? Weird lines through the purple bruising that seem untouched. I bet they'll fill in with some other nice color in a few days :D

Looking at the xray, I'd say you also either have, or have had a problem with the 3rd and 6th ribs too. I have broken enough bones to know. I should have an honorary radiologist certificate!
