Silver Penguin
OK, so it's not the kind of dirty weekend that most people think of but we had a LOT of fun in the post-rainstorms desert. Remember I posted up pix of my shiny new Honda 230? It's not so shiny any more. It's beginning to look like a real, off-road bike.
Holly Road. Normally a hard-packed dustbowl of a road, leading from SR-22 (Salton Sea to Borrego Springs), to the places we like to camp. In all the time we've camped there, I've never seen a drop of water on this road.
Saw a big puddle and decided to ride through it, just to see how it felt. It was kinda fun, so we did it again, and again and again.
Not so clean and shiny now!
Got the bike (and rider) a few scratches when I took a trip over the bars. As the main trail crossed a wash, I started to lose the back end in the mud. Thought I'd saved it but realised that I wasn't headed for the place I meant to be. The edge of the wash had a few gentle slopes, cut by previous vehicles and some vertical walls about 12" high. I chose the former but ended up hitting the latter. The front wheel stopped but the back wheel and I kept going. That would have made for some entertaining video! I did learn that I can pick the bike up on my own, and that ATGATT is always a good thing, even at 20mph in sand. The chin bar of the helmet took the brunt of the face-plant onto the instruments.
Andy's Yamaha WR250. Looks kinda cool at sunset doesn't it? I went for a ride on his bike, but didn't get it dirty, Honest!
And this is how he justified buying the pressure washer that he has been drooling over for months. Every well equipped garage should have one, for cleaning off the bikes.
Last but not least, what's a camping trip without a dog or two? Siggy loves his desert trips.
