I tried to read these ramblings but I apparently don't speak the language they were written in. In high school physics class I aced every single test right up until we started the electronics portion and it was all over my head and I struggled to pass.

About all I can grasp is...

1. Don't put metal objects in the socket (actually learned that one in biology class...the hard way)

2. There's smoke in there that shouldn't be let out.

I did read your ramblings on clutch soaking and that worked out very well though.

Probably what got me interested in electricity was the occasion aged about 4 when I poked my fingers into a table-lamp socket. I remember thinking that the two prongs were springy (this is the UK standard, a bayonet fitting with sprung contacts), I wanted to feel them. Obviously it was live (or there'd be no point in the story) and obviously I survived (or I wouldn't be writing this). I did get thrown across the room. 240V hurts. Never told the parents, too afraid of being in trouble. I was often in trouble.

I didn't let any smoke out then (that I remember), but I've let plenty out since, much during trial-and-error experimenting (with a lot of emphasis on the error).

Since then I've always had considerable respect for the stuff, and I'm very comfortable using it - electronics has been my hobby as a boy and my livelihood as a grown-up boy. Which means I know that there's a lot about it I don't know

Guess what my hobby is as an ancient boy? A clue:

. And the odd bit of photography, hence my pictorial clutch soak posting.

But I still dabble in the odd electronic design.

I give up...making Raspberry pie?
I leave the pies to my dearly beloved, she's the best cook I've ever come across. (Please keep this work safe.)

I do use the odd Raspberry Pi, however - this picture is sent to you by what's in this picture. Not really as incestuous as it sounds.

The Raspberry Pi . . . . . . . . . . . .Add a disc drive and you've got a web server

Mind you, the software is mostly down to my IT expert son. Who has seen the light, and now enjoys motorcycling. At least, he would be if he hadn't broken his leg and mustn't put any weight on it for months.

And no, not motorcycling. Snowboarding In Whistler, Canada. Stupid *****.
