Couldn't find a better place to put this so..

looking for a recommendation on the best deal in a cheap pay-as-you-go cell phone.

Edit: better clarify... in the USA (as my CDN provider wants me to bend over to use my phone in the States!)

Hit up Walmart for a decent selection. I have no experience with these phones, but I'd recommend one of the larger providers such as Verizon or AT&T for potentially better service coverage area.

Or Target or major fuel stations (truck stops). You may need internet access to register/activate it. I had one for a few months and I activated it online. I don't know if you can call from the phone you just bought to activate it.

TracFone is decent...but as WB4N pointed out, you might want to pick one from ATT or Verizon to get the best coverage.
