Too handy to take off, we always have water, a few tools, helmet lock and other good stuff with us. If nothing else the helmets will go in.

My take is that I bought the bike for the luggage and the performance, if I did not need the luggage then there would be a ZX14 or 'Busa in the garage instead.

The only ride my hard bags have ever gotten on either of my two FJRs was home from the Stealership. As soon as I get them home I popped the reflectors (just for fun), tighten and loctite the latch screw then i wrap them in old sweatshirts and plastic bags and tuck them away in the garage.

Never fitted mine, they are still in the boxes they came in.
Nobody should ride with side bags! Take 'em off and sell them!!!

BTW - I need a left Gen II sidebag, preferably an '07, if you have one you no longer need! :D

Seriously though, my bike is still pulling hard at 220kmph with the bags on. I don't see an impediment to acceleration!

When I damaged my left side case, I rode with just the right and even then didn't notice a significant difference in handling.

Been riding without side bags for a while now (while looking for a Left side replacement) and don't 'feel' any noticeable improvement in handling or acceleration. Once I replace that damaged bag, they will stay on all riding season (I hang then on the wall in the off season!)

OTOH, if I had had them off, I wouldn't have damaged the bag in the first place! :dribble:

I do weekly grocery runs with mine. You can stuff a decent amount of supplies in the sides and trunk.

Only thing I'll take off for "spirited" rides is the trunk.

I can fit a six pack of long neck MGD's in each one and safely transport them home without breaking. That's reason enough for me to keep them on all the time.

Mostly, everything.. I need the storage its one of the reasons I was looking at the FJR. I like the way it looks and it rides fine.. it goes the speed limit with all bags on as well as it does with all the bags off.
